pairing: luke hughes x fem!reader
summary: just friends who finally stop being in denial
warnings: use of y/n, kissing, fluffy romance, not proofread.
a/n: my first real post on tumblrrrr yayyy !! hope u like it <3
ꫂ ၴႅၴ
i don’t remember a time in my life without luke hughes.
some of my earliest memories are of him—messy-haired and wild, running through the backyard, grass stains on his knees, hand wrapped tightly around mine as we chased fireflies in the summer heat. he was always there. through every scraped knee, every school project, every hockey game where i cheered too loudly in the stands.
and somewhere along the way, he became more than just luke.
but i never let myself think about it too much.
because he was my best friend first. and you don’t fall in love with your best friend. even if maybe, just maybe, you already have.
ꫂ ၴႅၴ
“you’re late,” luke grumbled as i slid into the passenger seat of his car.
i rolled my eyes, shoving his arm playfully. “relax. you’re not gonna be late to practice.”
luke sighed dramatically, putting the car in drive. “that’s not the point. you’re always late.”
i grinned. “yeah? and you always wait for me anyway.”
he didn’t respond.
instead, he just drummed his fingers against the steering wheel, eyes focused on the road. he had that look again—the one where he wanted to say something but wouldn’t.
i knew luke like the back of my hand, but sometimes, he was impossible to read.
and right now? he was a locked book.
“spit it out,” i finally said.
luke blinked. “what?”
“you’re thinking about something.”
“i’m always thinking about something.”
i shot him a look. “luke.”
he let out a breath, shaking his head. “it’s nothing.”
i didn’t believe him, but i let it go.
for now.
ꫂ ၴႅၴ
jack and quinn have always been like my older brothers. they were just as much a part of my life as luke was—teasing me, protecting me, making fun of me every chance they got.
so, when jack pulled me aside after dinner one night, his expression unusually serious, i knew something was up.
“what’s going on?” i asked.
jack hesitated. “you and luke.” i frowned. “what about us?”
jack gave me a look. “come on, y/n.”
i crossed my arms, shifting uncomfortably. “there is no me and luke.”
jack scoffed. “yeah, okay. tell that to him.”
my stomach twisted. “jack…”
“you really don’t see it, do you?” jack asked, shaking his head. “he’s been in love with you since we were kids.”
my breath caught in my throat. that wasn’t true. it couldn’t be.
luke was my best friend.
if he felt that way… i would know. right?
but then, flashes of him filled my mind. the way his hand always found mine in a crowded room. the way he looked at me when he thought i wasn’t paying attention. the way he held on just a second too long whenever we hugged.
maybe jack was right. maybe i just didn’t want to see it.
ꫂ ၴႅၴ
a few nights later, i found luke sitting alone on the dock behind his house, staring at the lake.
i sat beside him, nudging his shoulder. “penny for your thoughts?”
luke huffed out a laugh, but it wasn’t his usual one. it was softer. more hesitant.
“you ever feel like… something’s right in front of you, but you’re too scared to reach for it?” he asked.
i swallowed. “yeah.”
luke turned to me then, his blue eyes searching mine. “jack talked to you.”
it wasn’t a question.
i nodded.
he let out a quiet laugh, shaking his head. “of course, he did.”
“luke…”
he didn’t let me finish.
instead, he reached for my hand—something he had done a million times before, but this time, it felt different. more.
“i’ve loved you for as long as i can remember,” he said, voice barely above a whisper. “and i know you might not feel the same, but i can’t keep pretending i don’t.”
my heart pounded against my ribs.
because i did feel the same. i always had.
so, instead of answering, i did the only thing that made sense.
i kissed him and it felt like coming home.

Your dorm room is silent, but not an uncomfortable silence. it was comforting, a contrast to the usual music blasting in your ear around this time. most of your saturdays were spent like that, either being a designated driver for the drunk sorority girls or being the one in the backseat shitfaced straight to hell. but not today.
it was valentine’s day, and you weren’t at a party. you weren’t getting shitfaced. you were spending it with him.
on tuesday, you were assigned a project, your professor decided on pairing you up randomly instead of letting everyone choose a partner. you got paired with sam, the boy who sat two rows behind you.
he knew who you were, sam had been harboring a crush on you for a while now, and thanks to the professor, he got to speak to you instead of just offering you a pen like he would any other day. he kept to himself most of the time, so sam knew you probably didn’t know who he was. but to his surprise, you did. and the project was finished quicker than you both would’ve expected.
you and sam got along well, you shared a few interests and he was the first guy that didn’t start hitting on you with a pickup line during the first conversation. he was careful, always making sure that it was okay if he asked a question, even if he needed to borrow a pencil, he would ask so sweetly.
your friends didn’t understand why you hadn’t shown up to the party since you usually were always there, and your phone had rang for a good 30 minutes before you turned it off and placed it in your bag. sam was still a bit confused on why you decided to stay with him, he assumed that after the project was done you would’ve gone back to your friend group. but you didn’t, you stayed with him.
now, you were both in your dorm room. sam agreed when you asked him if he would watch a movie with you — maybe he agreed too fast. but here you were, it was a random rom-com. usually sam didn’t watch these type of movies, but he learned that you actually enjoyed laughing at the cheesy moments. and that was enough to convince him. he wished he could mentally record your laughter, store it away in his head somewhere. and your smile, he wanted to take a photo of it and tattoo it in his brain forever.
he couldn’t stop looking at you, admiring every detail on your face.
your voice cut through his thoughts, “what’s going on in there, lawboy?” sam blinked, your words starting to register. his face felt hot, and he was sure there was an obvious blush on his face.
“‘s nothing, just… thinking.” he nearly stumbled over his words, it was hard enough to try and not stutter in any way. but you knew there was more than that. he was sometimes a good liar, but you also could read him like a book. it was one of your talents.
“so… staring at my lips helps you think?” sam hadn’t realized that his eyes had lingered on them for so long, his eyes widened for a brief second as he tried to get an answer out. but you cut him off with your lips before he could.
he froze for a split second, but he melted into it. you could feel his lips moving back against yours, and you swore he seemed eager. your fingers went up to curl in his soft locks, tugging at them. sam let out a soft moan, his lips parted just enough for you to slip your tongue past. you explored every corner and crevice of his mouth, wanting to taste him. and he let you.
when you moved to straddle his lap, sam’s hands lifted to rest on your hips. his thumbs stroked the skin underneath the hem of your tank, your lips never disconnecting once. reluctantly, he pulled away, trailing open-mouthed kisses down starting from your jaw. his lips grazed over your pulse point, starting to suck and nibble at the sensitive skin, earning a gasp from you.
“fuck,” your curse spurred him on further, his fingers making their way up to the thin straps of your top. he tugged at it, looking up at you for permission.
“can i?” why did he have to sound so sweet?
with your nod, he tugged the straps down. he didn’t think anything could drive him more crazy but, you wearing no bra underneath did. sam’s thumbs traced over your nipples, feeling them harden beneath his touch. your hips rolled down against his, experimenting. this time, both of you let out a moan. you could feel his hardness pressing firmly against your core and you couldn’t help but to keep grinding down against it, craving the friction again.
he lifted his hips to help you undo his slacks, watching you undo his belt and pull down his jeans past his knees. you were both bare besides the thin barrier of his boxers and your panties were the only thing that separated you two. sam sounded breathless, “i need to feel you… please, baby.” he sounded so pretty when he begged, and you took note. keeping that in mind for next time.
once you started to lift yourself up, both hands flew to your hips to hold you steady. god, it was better than he imagined. your hands teased the hem of his briefs before tugging the fabric off. he was aching for this, the tip of him flushed a pretty red tint.
and he was leaking like a girl. all for you. everything was for you. it always had been.
“is that okay?” he sounded nervous, and his manners just fueled your arousal even more. he was putting your pleasure before his, wanting to make sure you were comfortable.
“you’re perfect, sam.” a nervous smile curled up on sam’s lips at your praise. the pink hue that was more evident on his cheeks was beautiful. he really was, and the way he was looking at you…
sam thought you were one of the most gorgeous, smartest, amazing women on campus, he always had. every time you walked down the hallways or on the sidewalks next to the building, he had his eyes on you. the way your hair flowed, the way your eyes darted to pay attention to who was speaking… when you first did that with him, he thought he would simply pass away. now he was going to have sex with you? now you were praising him? of all people? he’s never been harder in his life.
the hands on your hips guided you to align with his cock. once you hovered over him, sam let one hand slip down to your panties. he could feel the heat radiating from your core, “you’re so beautiful.” and he means it. he really does.
you were soaked, a damp patch apparent where your covered slit was. his eyes widened when he realized. sam winchester, the prelaw student, had you, the popular girl, wet because of him. fuck, he was gonna have good dreams tonight.
sam felt your hand over his, guiding him to pull your panties aside. revealing your most intimate part, he took in a sharp intake of breath.
“do you want me to do this with you, sam? is that okay?” you wanted to make sure this was what he wanted, even though the answer was obvious. he really was a sight to behold. he was perfect, thick and long… and much larger than anyone you’ve ever taken. but especially much softer, more gentle with you. he wasn’t trying to rush you, he was letting you take the lead.
“yes. please.” he begged, his puppy-dog eyes looking up at you with a loving expression.
he grasped his length in his hand, his free one on your hip. guiding his tip to your entrance, sam leaned forward. He captured your lips in a gentle, but passionate kiss. Soothing your nerves as he helped you lower down onto his cock.
you gasped against his mouth, the stretch burned a bit at first. and it took you a while to adjust to the intrusion, sam was still — he knew he was big, not in an egotistical way, but he knew it was a lot for you. His thumb stroked the skin of your hip, and now his other hand stroked the inside of your thigh. Once you were fully seated, he pulled away an inch. in a soft voice, “are you okay? we can stop if you want.” always a gentleman.
“no, no it’s okay, baby. jus’ give me a few minutes.” sam’s heart fluttered at the pet name, and he nodded. he never stopped the gentle caress on your sides, now pressing kisses to your jaw in attempts of calming you. and he was damn good at it.
with a deep breath, you nodded.
the first time you moved, you both groaned. he filled you deliciously, all in the right places. you didn’t want to stop, and you started a steady pace. he latched onto your nipple, sucking and biting at the pebble. your fingers went to his hair, tugging and stroking through the brown strands. sam whimpered against your breast.
he fucking whimpered because you pulled his hair. his hips bucked, earning a loud, wanton cry from you. the way you were bouncing on his cock, looking so blissed out because of him… it drew out a string of curses and moans from him. the sound of skin meeting skin, the obscene sound of your pussy being filled with every inch of his dick made his eyes roll back.
“y-you’re so tight, mph-“ your eyes rolled back, feeling sam twitch inside of you. you kissed him hard, pulling harder at his locks. mumbling against his lips, you managed out: “you’re so big in me, sam… fuck, is this what you imagined? you feel so good, baby.” the last sentence was a drawn out moan. you were so close, and he was barely hanging on. the way you tightened and pulsed around him made his balls draw up tight.
he whined this time, “i need to cum, please. please let me cum inside you- inside your pussy, fuck!” his voice was breaking. he wanted you, he needed you. you took pleasure in this, from him. it was driving you over the edge just by how pathetic he sounded right now.
“yes, you can. yeah, sammy… you can cum. fuck, push me over the edge, i know you can.” your forehead was pressed to his, your hips moving faster. his hand was shaky as he took two fingers to your clit, rubbing the pearl in continuous circles. sam barely could contain his cries as he came, painting your inner walls pure white. he felt your cunt spasm around him, and his body went limp beneath you.
sam let you ride out your orgasm on him, using his body for your pleasure. the sight was fucking stunning… there was a stirring in his groin again. he didn’t think he’d ever be able to stop.
“I um, I meant to say. Happy Valentine’s day.” a smile curved up on your lips, looking up at his still pink face. god he was adorable, “Happy Valentine’s day, Loverboy.”

The hum of the compound is familiar by now. Machines whir softly in the background, the faint scent of coffee lingers in the air, and somewhere in the distance, you can hear Sam and Tony bickering over something that probably doesn’t matter. This is home—at least, as close as it gets. It wasn’t always, but things changed. The world changed, and you had to change with it.
Being here is better than being out there. You know that much. The compound is safer. It’s structured. Sure, it’s a little weird living with a bunch of Avengers, but it beats the alternative. When SHIELD fell apart, a lot of things got messy, including your life. No family, no place to go, just a kid caught in the middle of something bigger than them. Steve found you first, said they’d figure something out, and now, somehow, you’ve ended up here. Officially, you’re under the Avengers’ protection. Unofficially, you’re the compound’s resident stray.
“Alright, what is it this time?”
Bucky’s voice pulls you out of your thoughts, and you glance up from where you’ve been hunched over the kitchen counter, fidgeting with a fresh roll of stickers. He’s standing in the doorway, arms crossed, looking at you with an exasperated sort of fondness.
You grin. “You make it sound like I’ve done something bad.”
He raises an eyebrow. “Haven’t you?”
“Depends on your definition of ‘bad,’” you say, tearing off a small sticker shaped like a cat. Without hesitation, you reach out and press it to the cool vibranium of his forearm. It sticks perfectly, just like you knew it would.
Bucky sighs like a man who has known deep suffering. “Why do you keep doing this?”
“Because you let me,” you answer simply, peeling off another sticker—this one shaped like a tiny watermelon slice—and placing it beside the first.
It’s true. You started doing this months ago, fully expecting him to shut it down after the first few times. He never did. The first time, it had been a dumb impulse, something to break the tension. You’d been talking, and without really thinking about it, you’d stuck a star-shaped sticker onto his arm. He’d given you a long, unreadable look but hadn’t peeled it off. That was all the encouragement you needed.
Now, it’s a habit. Every time you see him, you add a new one. Sometimes, he’ll pretend not to notice. Other times, he’ll act put-upon, like he’s carrying some great burden. You know better, though. If he really hated it, he wouldn’t still be standing here, letting you decorate his arm like it’s an elementary school art project.
“I let you do a lot of things,” he mutters, watching as you place a little frog next to the watermelon.
“And that’s why you’re my favorite,” you say, grinning.
“Steve’s gonna be hurt,” he points out.
“Steve’s got enough fans,” you reply, reaching for another sticker. This one’s a smiley face with sunglasses. You stick it on his wrist.
Bucky glances down at his arm, then back at you. His expression softens—just a little. “Y’know, people used to be scared of me.”
“Yeah, well,” you say, adding a rainbow to his forearm, “they clearly weren’t looking hard enough. You’re a giant teddy bear.”
He scoffs, but there’s no real heat behind it. “A ‘teddy bear’ with a metal arm and a kill count.”
“Even teddy bears have claws,” you say, shrugging. “Besides, you let a teenager put stickers on you. That automatically lowers your intimidation factor.”
Bucky huffs but doesn’t argue. You know he won’t take them off. He never does, at least not right away. Sometimes, hours later, you’ll spot him across the compound, still wearing them.
That’s enough for you.
It doesn’t take long for the others to notice.
The first one to point it out is Sam.
You’re both sitting in the common room, Bucky on the couch, you curled up on the opposite end, sorting through a new pack of stickers you got from a store Tony let you raid on a supply run. They’re good ones, too—holographic, shimmery, some even glow in the dark. You’re in the process of carefully placing a tiny raccoon on Bucky’s wrist when Sam strolls in, eyes scanning the room before landing on the two of you.
His brows pull together. “Uh, what the hell is that?”
Bucky, who has clearly mastered the art of selective ignorance, doesn’t look up from his book. You, however, grin and wave. “What’s what?”
“That,” Sam says, pointing at Bucky’s arm like it personally offended him.
Bucky finally sighs, lowering his book just enough to glare over the top of it. “You’re gonna have to be more specific, man.”
Sam narrows his eyes and gestures again. “That. The stickers. What am I looking at?”
You lean back, admiring your work. By now, Bucky’s metal arm is covered in a vibrant mess of stickers—cartoon animals, little hearts, a glittery UFO, and even a miniature Avengers logo you’d snuck in just for fun.
You beam. “Art.”
Sam blinks. He looks at Bucky, then back at you, then back at Bucky. “And you’re just…letting them do this?”
Bucky shrugs. “Yeah.”
Silence. Sam stares, mouth opening and closing like he wants to say something but can’t find the words. Eventually, he just lets out a short, disbelieving laugh. “Man, you really are getting soft.”
Bucky flips him off without looking up.
You take that as permission to add another sticker—a rainbow-colored star, right on his shoulder.
Sam shakes his head, muttering something under his breath before grabbing his drink from the fridge and heading out, still looking vaguely disturbed by what he just witnessed.
Of course, Sam being Sam, the moment he’s out of the room, you know he’s going to tell the others.
The next one to comment on it is Natasha.
You’re sitting at the kitchen counter, helping yourself to a bowl of cereal, when she walks in. She nods at you in greeting before grabbing a protein bar from the cabinet. It’s a normal morning, nothing out of the ordinary—until she glances at Bucky and does a double-take.
She tilts her head slightly. “Did you get in a fight with a Lisa Frank notebook?”
You nearly choke on your cereal.
Bucky, who is now used to this reaction, doesn’t even blink. “No.”
Natasha takes a bite of her protein bar, studying him. “Then why does your arm look like a kindergarten art project?”
Bucky doesn’t answer, so you take it upon yourself. “Because I put them there.”
Natasha arches an eyebrow. “And he let you?”
“Obviously,” you say, popping another spoonful of cereal into your mouth.
She’s quiet for a moment, her sharp gaze flicking from you to Bucky. You half-expect her to make a snarky comment or tease him, but instead, she just hums and says, “Huh.”
And then she reaches into her pocket, pulls out a tiny cat magnet, and sticks it to his forearm before walking away like nothing happened.
Bucky stares after her, brow furrowed. He lifts his arm slightly, looking at the magnet now clinging to the vibranium.
You snort. “You’re officially a walking fridge.”
He groans.
It only gets worse from there.
A few days later, Steve notices.
You’re in the gym, watching Bucky and Steve spar while pretending to be invested in a book. In reality, you’re mostly waiting for them to finish so you can rope Bucky into watching a movie with you.
Steve circles Bucky, eyes narrowed in concentration. He throws a punch, which Bucky easily dodges. There’s a beat of silence before Steve suddenly drops his stance, frowning.
“…Are those stickers?”
Bucky sighs. “Jesus Christ.”
Steve squints, stepping back to get a better look. “They are.” His frown deepens. “And…are those magnets?”
You bite back a laugh.
Bucky glares at you like this is somehow your fault (which, to be fair, it is).
Steve crosses his arms. “You’ve been walking around like this?”
“Yes.”
“And you just…let them do it?”
“Yes.”
Steve blinks, clearly struggling to process this information. You can practically see the gears turning in his head, trying to reconcile the image of his best friend, ex-Winter Soldier, walking around covered in colorful stickers and fridge magnets.
Eventually, he just sighs. “You’re impossible.”
Bucky smirks. “Took you this long to figure that out?”
Steve shakes his head, clearly exasperated, but doesn’t push the subject further.
You take that as a win.
Tony’s reaction is arguably the best.
You’re in the lab with Bucky, keeping him company while Tony messes around with something that looks vaguely explosive. He’s in the middle of rambling about some new upgrade for Bucky’s arm when he abruptly stops mid-sentence.
His eyes narrow. “Hold on.”
Bucky tenses. “What?”
Tony steps closer, squinting at his arm. He lifts a finger and flicks one of the magnets, watching as it wobbles slightly before settling back into place.
“…Are you kidding me?”
Bucky groans. “Not you too.”
Tony bursts out laughing. “Oh, this is rich. You—you’ve been walking around like this? Just letting them stick things to you?”
“Yes,” Bucky says flatly.
Tony looks at you, still grinning. “You did this?”
You nod proudly. “Yep.”
He lets out an impressed whistle. “Wow. I gotta say, Barnes, I didn’t think you had it in you.”
Bucky rolls his eyes. “Are you done?”
Tony pretends to consider. “Nope.”
Bucky mutters something under his breath and turns to leave, but before he can make his escape, Tony suddenly grabs a Stark Industries magnet from his workbench and slaps it onto Bucky’s bicep with a satisfied smirk.
Bucky glares at him. “I hate you.”
Tony winks. “No, you don’t.”
You snicker as Bucky stomps out of the lab, now sporting a Stark-branded magnet.
Despite the teasing, Bucky never takes them off right away.
Sometimes, you’ll catch him absentmindedly running his fingers over a sticker while he’s reading or training. Other times, you’ll see him glance down at his arm, something soft and unreadable in his expression before he quickly schools his face back into neutrality.
You don’t push. You don’t have to.
He lets you do this because he knows it makes you happy. Because he knows it makes you feel safe.
And, maybe—just maybe—because he doesn’t mind it as much as he pretends to.
The stickers—and now magnets—become a daily ritual.
At this point, everyone in the compound has noticed. Clint, predictably, laughs himself half to death when he first sees Bucky with a sparkly unicorn sticker on his wrist. Thor, on the other hand, is completely unbothered. He takes one look, nods approvingly, and later gifts you a set of Asgardian insignia stickers that you immediately slap onto Bucky’s arm. Even Bruce, who usually keeps to himself, quietly asks if he can contribute and hands you a little atom-shaped magnet one afternoon.
Bucky grumbles about it, of course. He sighs dramatically when you press another sticker onto his arm, acts like it’s the greatest inconvenience in the world, but he never actually stops you. He never pulls away. He never tells you no.
And he never takes them off until he’s alone.
You start paying attention, watching him when he thinks no one else is looking. He’ll be in the middle of a conversation, his fingers absentmindedly brushing over the stickers on his forearm, tracing the edges. You notice that he doesn’t cover his arm as much anymore—not as often as he used to. Before, he wore long sleeves even in the middle of summer, like he couldn’t stand the sight of it. Now, he just lets it be.
That realization sits in the back of your mind for a long time.
Then, one day, you ask.
It’s late.
Most of the compound has already turned in for the night. The common room is quiet, dimly lit by the glow of the television, where some old black-and-white movie plays with the volume low. You’re curled up on the couch next to Bucky, a fresh pack of stickers in your lap.
You press a new one onto his arm—a tiny golden retriever wearing sunglasses—before hesitating.
“Hey, Buck?”
He glances down at you. “Yeah?”
You fidget slightly, turning the next sticker over in your hands. “…Why do you let me do this?”
Bucky blinks, like he wasn’t expecting that question. “Huh?”
You gesture vaguely to his arm, now covered in an assortment of colorful stickers and small magnets. “This. Why do you let me put them on you? You could’ve told me to stop. But you didn’t.”
For a moment, he’s quiet. His expression shifts—just a little—but you catch it. A flicker of something uncertain, something careful, like he’s picking his words before speaking.
Then, finally, he exhales.
“…Because it helps.”
You tilt your head. “Helps with what?”
Bucky glances down at his arm, his fingers skimming over the stickers.
“You know what this arm used to be,” he says, his voice quieter than before. “What it used to do.”
You don’t say anything. You don’t need to.
He swallows, his jaw tight. “For a long time, it felt like it didn’t belong to me. Like it was just…a weapon. A part of me that wasn’t really mine.” His fingers brush over the little cartoon raccoon you stuck near his wrist. “But then you started doing this. And…I don’t know. It’s stupid.”
“It’s not,” you say immediately.
He lets out a short, humorless laugh. “Maybe not. But it’s…different, now. When I look at it.” He pauses, then shakes his head. “When I see the stickers, I don’t think about the things I’ve done. I think about you. About Sam rolling his eyes, Nat sneaking magnets onto me, Steve acting like he doesn’t get it even though he does.” His voice softens. “I think about now. Not then.”
You don’t know when your eyes started burning, but suddenly, it’s hard to see. You swallow thickly, trying to blink away the sting.
“Oh,” you say, and it comes out smaller than you meant it to.
Bucky glances at you, eyes sharp. “Hey. Don’t cry on me, kid.”
“I’m not,” you lie, furiously rubbing at your eyes. “It’s just—you just said something really nice, and my dumb emotions weren’t prepared for it.”
Bucky huffs a quiet laugh. “You’re ridiculous.”
“Says the guy covered in stickers,” you sniff, but you’re smiling now, even if your throat is still tight.
Bucky shakes his head, rolling his eyes, but there’s something softer in his expression when he looks at you.
“…Thanks, kid.”
You look up at him. “For what?”
He gestures vaguely at his arm. “This. The stickers. Everything.”
You don’t know what to say to that, so you just grab another sticker and carefully press it onto the back of his hand.
Bucky glances down at it. It’s a tiny heart.
He smiles.

Part 5 - John Price x reader

You’d been screening John’s calls and leaving his texts unread for the last fortnight, feeling worse and worse for it and not knowing exactly why you were doing it.
Each notification had your heart pumping in excitement for the possibility of him still reaching out despite your silence, and then thumping too hard in immediate anxiety and guilt.
“Stop moping and text him,” Kate said to you finally. She’d been watching you check your phone routinely throughout brunch and had noticed how you were only half focused in their conversations and slow to engage. You’d laugh a second later than the others and had forgotten what you’d ordered when it had arrived at the table.
“I’m not ready for dating.” You shrugged her off, looking back down at your phone.
She huffed and sent you a disbelieving look. Your other two friends currently present, Cass and Paige, paused their conversation to look at you doubtfully too.
“I’ve not seen you as happy as you had been recently when you were hanging out with him,” Kate said and the other two agreed. “I know this isn’t a confidence thing either. He said he liked you, and you clearly liked him.”
“Katie,” you said warningly.
“She’s not wrong,” Paige said and took a sip of her drink.
“I mean, hell, if you’re really set on not dating, then don’t! That’s fine, but text the guy back for god’s sake and hang out again. Or put him out of his misery.” She bit a large chunk out of her avocado toast as you slumped in your chair.
“He’s still trying, right? That’s what you were worried about?” Cass said, hitting the nail on the head.
Guiltily you looked down at the unanswered messages under John’s contact. It stung to realise that maybe John had been genuine that night and you’d turned him down so bluntly.
You chewed on the inside of your cheek and typed up your reply, sending it before you could talk yourself out of it.
>> hi john sorry for the distance, i’ve been figuring some stuff out. make it up to you over coffee if you’re free later?
He didn’t leave you waiting anxiously for long, replying immediately with an affirmative.
“What did he say?” Paige asked.
“We’re meeting up later,” you said a little bashfully. “He said he’s looking forward to seeing me.”
Kate smiled knowingly. “Yeah, I bet.”
You elbowed her lightly and put your phone away. It was easier to settle back into the conversation with the group, easier to concentrate, with your chest not feeling so tight.
——
“Hey,” you greeted him softly inside the coffee shop later that day. He’d arrived early again.
You felt almost more awkward now than you had when meeting him for the first time.
“How have you been, Sunshine?” He asked as you took your seat.
“Good. Fine. Yeah.” You nodded before you shook it. “I wanted to apologise, John. For a lot of things but—“
“No need, Sunshine, honestly,” he waved you off gruffly, leaning forward in his seat as you shrank back in yours. “I’m just glad you’re happy to see me now.”
“I am,” you confirmed with a shy smile, sat opposite him and growing more relaxed at the pleased twitch of his moustache.
“So what’s been new?” He asked again.
You snorted. “It’s only been a couple of weeks since we last saw each other,” you said.
He blushed, the pink flush half hidden behind the beard he was growing back out.
“Guess I got used to all the updates throughout the day quicker than I’d realised.” He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly before looking to the counter and sitting up straighter. “Do you want anything? My treat.”
Your smile had dropped at the reminder of how you’d skipped out of his life so suddenly; even though you didn’t owe him anything, you had grown to be friends before the wedding and you know you’d have been hurt if it was the other way around.
“Yeah, just an iced latte please,” you said before stopping him from standing. “Hey, I said I was making it up to you. I should be paying.”
He huffed a laugh. “Not likely. You’re making it up to me by sticking around, Sunshine. You didn’t have to come at all.”
“John…”
“One iced latte coming up,” he said and stood. “God knows why, they taste more of sugar than coffee.”
“That’s exactly why,” you huffed a hesitant laugh as he headed to the counter. When he came back a minute later and sat down with the drinks you took a sip before speaking. “To answer your question, work has been the same old, but I’m thinking of maybe getting a pet? Tied between a cat and a rabbit at the moment. If it’s a rabbit, I’ll need to sort the garden though, it’s little bit overgrown right now.”
His eyebrows raised in surprise and he put his tea down. “You got the tools for it?”
“I think my neighbour has a lawnmower and my mum probably has a pair of shears I could borrow for the hedges,” you hummed. It had only been a half thought semi-recently, so you’d not put much planning into the idea yet, just the start of a pinterest board of cute ideas.
“I could help,” he offered, a touch too casual. “If you wanted. I’ve got a lawnmower I don’t get to use too often and some time off before I have to head back to work.”
“I’ll think about it,” you said with a gentle smile.
He nodded.
“What about you?” You asked.
“Same old,” he said vaguely, repeating your own words back at you. He shuffled uncomfortably in his seat. “I am having to go back to work properly soon though.”
You tilted your head, confused at his drab tone, certain as you were that you’d messaged once or twice when he was at work, stuck doing paperwork or in a meeting before the wedding.
“I’ll be heading overseas,” he clarified. “Might not be contactable for a few weeks at a time. Just didn’t want you to think…”
“That you were ignoring me to get back at me for the fact that I ghosted you?” You guessed when he trailed off. John nodded sheepishly.
“Fuck, I’m glad I’ve gotten to see you before I go,” he said quietly, just looking at you.
“Me too,” you agreed. Impulsively, you finished off your drink and made a quick decision. “Do you want to come back to mine for dinner? I’ll cook.”
John grinned brightly. “I’d love that.”
——
You busied yourself in the kitchen when you got back home with him, missing his chuffed smirk when he saw your door was still in working order with no sign of it dragging on the doorstep.
You didn’t miss his hum when he joined you in the kitchen a moment later.
“That shelf meant to be on a slant?” He asked, eyes shrewd as he looked at your collection of herbs and spices.
“Oh, no but I’ve just never found time to fix it. And it’s not fallen down yet, so it’s not even made an appearance on my Urgent List.” You shrugged.
He hummed again and headed back to the front door. “I’ve got my tool box with me, I’ll sort it now for you.”
“No, John, you don’t have to,” you called after him, but he was already out of the door. You didn’t know that he’d kept his toolbox in his truck ever since he was first here just in case you messaged again needing anything sorted, and now he was glad his foresight was paying off.
The shelf was sorted quicker than the kettle boiled and you swatted at him to go relax once he’d cleaned up after himself. He placatingly held his hands up in mock surrender and went to wash up in the bathroom while you rinsed some veg under the kitchen tap.
You were given ten minutes of peace before you started to wonder where he’d gone and left the pasta in the pan boiling and the sauce on a low heat to find him. You weren’t afraid to chew him out if he was snooping, but instead you found him hunched over the sink in the bathroom.
“Taps were finicky,” he said before you’d had chance to ask him what he was doing. When he’d had chance to grab his tools from the kitchen without you noticing you didn’t know, but you couldn’t help but snicker as he frowned down at the old taps.
“Don’t do well sitting still, do you, John?”
He shrugged. “Figured I might as well since I’m here,” he said instead.
You snorted. “Come help me with the sauce once you’re done here then.”
You stifled a laugh when you heard him swear through the open door before the sound of a running tap turned on and off a few times. He came back through to the kitchen a little later with a satisfied smile and you did your best to concentrate on cooking instead.
You smiled at him when he settled in next to you to take over stirring the sauce, leaving you free to set the table. You felt a pang of domesticity, it was all so easy with John.
You plated it up and sat down together. Eating dinner with him was just as easy, the awkwardness you’d felt walking into the cafe forgotten about completely as conversation flowed naturally between the two of you. Though you did have to fend the man off from planning to go out in the morning to get the wood to build you either a hutch for a potential rabbit or put up climbing shelves if you decided on a cat instead; he’d figured you’d be able to decide by time you’d finished the pasta.
“Best meal I’ve had in a while,” he sighed happily when he finished off the pasta. “Stunning.”
“Thanks, John,” you said bashfully. When you stood to take the dishes he moved quicker and grabbed the plate from your hands. You didn’t bother complaining, knowing how stubborn the man was already; instead you joined him and put the dishes away once he’d cleaned them, smiling to yourself as the pair of you worked in comfortable silence.
When all was put away and your kitchen was back to normal - now with a sturdier shelf - he smiled and headed for the door reluctantly with his toolbox in hand.
“Thanks for today, Sunshine,” he said softly and, after a brief moment of deliberation, he leant in to kiss your cheek. “Talk to you later?”
You nodded happily and closed the door behind him.
When you laid in bed later that night you couldn’t stop thinking about the gentle, chaste kiss. The only real one you’d shared so far.
——
You only got a week with John before he disappeared. He’d made you promise to keep him updated like you would normally so he could catch up when he got back again, but you tried not to overwhelm his notifications; sticking to a couple of texts every few days instead of the daily messages you’d quickly fallen back into.
If he wanted more you were sure he’d let you know and if he only skim read the mountain of messages and photos you’d still managed to send then you’d ease up next time.
He said he would be gone a month, tops, but you didn’t hear from him for two. You tried not to worry, his job wasn’t an exact science, but that fact could make you more anxious depending on the day.
It was a random Wednesday evening when you got a knock on your front door and your heart suddenly plummeted.
You walked to the door with shaking hands. The repercussions of John’s work had never fully occurred to you until this moment, or at least you’d done your best not to linger on it for too long. But now visions of the person on the other side of your door being someone in an official uniform, waiting to let you know weeks too late that John had—
John had shown up to your house unexpectedly.
“Sunshine.” He smiled.
Clearly tired, he stood on your doorstep with his hair damp and curling at the ends, his beard overgrown and his work gear still on, though a big bag was hooked over his shoulder. His smile never wavered, relieved when you answered the door.
“John?” You stepped to the side to let him in without a second thought and he trailed a heavy hand appreciatively down your arm.
“Cleaned up a little at base, but I haven’t stopped driving home since. I’ve had you on my mind as soon as we were wheels down,” he admitted with soft eyes.
You didn’t question his use of the term ‘home’ when referring to driving to yours after spending months in another country and you certainly weren’t going to think about how it made you feel.
“You should’ve gone back to yours to sleep, or at least dropped off your things,” you berated him half-heartedly. “We could’ve caught up when you weren’t running on— what? Four hours of sleep?”
“Knew you’d be my first stop.” He’d dropped his bag by the front door, his daft hat dropped on top, and was slumping onto your couch with a heavy sigh. “Should’ve left my shit at base maybe. Just didn’t want to have to drive back tomorrow.”
“Have you eaten?” At his slight shake of the head, you moved to the kitchen and started pulling something together, leaving him to relax. You knew he must be tired by how he wasn’t following after you, and your suspicions were confirmed when you came back with a thick sandwich, the last slice of a quiche you’d made earlier in the week and some picky bits from your fridge to find him asleep. You cringed at the lacklustre dinner, but you hadn’t been expecting guests and you were going grocery shopping tomorrow, so you placed it on the coffee table and sat down carefully next to him so he didn’t wake.
Turning down the volume on the TV, you let him nap as you watched a few episodes of your latest favourite. You couldn’t help but let your eyes dart over to him every so often to check on him, giggling when you noticed his mouth had dropped open during his well deserved catnap.
You paused your show when he grumbled and wiped a slow hand over his face a few hours later.
“Hello, sleepyhead. Hungry?”
“Starving,” he groaned croakily.
“Best I could do on short notice,” you said and handed him the plate. You watched like a big cat documentarian as he tore through the food with an unholy passion, finished in minutes. You silently handed him your water and he chugged it back with a loud ‘ahh’ after.
“Lovely as ever,” he said sleepily before nodding back off. You stifled a laugh and stood to grab him an extra pillow and blanket. It was clear he wouldn’t be driving home tonight, so you thought you might as well let him get comfy and crash on the couch for the night.
A brief thought crossed your mind of waking John and letting him share your bed; you’d done it for the wedding after all, and it wouldn’t have to mean anything.
You shook your head and draped the blanket over him. You knew it would mean something and you weren’t ready to make that step yet as much as you wanted it.
——
You woke in the morning to John using your shower and you smiled at him with raised ‘brows when he came back out dressed in more familiar civ clothes. You looked for the bag at the front door but couldn’t see it.
“Staying for breakfast or heading home?”
“Heading home, sadly. But I’ll call you later, yeah? I want to catch up properly,” he said. “Thanks for letting me stay, Sunshine.”
“Of course,” you said genuinely and in between bites of your cereal. “It was a nice surprise.”
He hummed and leant in to kiss your temple with a warm hand cradling the back of your neck. You tried desperately not to push into him and to ignore the thoughts of how he smelt like you out of your head; how if anyone tried to flirt with him on his way home they’d smell your strawberry shampoo and very berry body wash. How your spring air scented febreeze spray had sunk into his jacket from the couch through the night.
Your subtle mark was all over him and neither of you seemed to mind.
“Call me when you get home, John.”
He hummed, lingered for a moment more, then headed out with his bag in tow.
——
The bar was loud and your friends were still wide awake and partying strong, celebrating the news of Paige’s well earned promotion. You, however, were flagging.
It was late, and the prospect of staying out any later was making holding back a yawn nigh impossible. You’d never been a big drinker so you’d not been keeping pace with the others, a possible mistake since you seemed to lack the same energy as them, found firmly in their second wind. The last thing you wanted to do was bail but you didn’t want to bring the mood just down hanging around either.
Your phone buzzed and you smiled when you saw it was john.
>> Still awake?
<< for once yeah :p
>> What show has you gripped to binge watch late into the night this time?
You snorted.
<< out celebrating with friends, paige got promoted!!!
>> Tell her congratulations from me
>> What time does the party end?
<< idk but i’m ready for bed already 😪
<< taxi isn’t booked for another couple of hours tho :(
John’s speech bubble appeared and disappeared a few times and you watched the screen avidly.
>> Do you want me to come meet you to walk you home?
<< really??
<< would you mind? it’s late and a little cold so you don’t have to!
>> Send me the address and I’ll set off now
<< thanks john ❤️
Either John lived close or he’d ran there, as you’d only just finished telling your friends that you were leaving early when John turned up.
“You shouldn’t leave on your own, walking home at this time of night is dangerous,” Cass said worriedly, her words slurring slightly.
“I’m not, John’s meeting me to walk me home,” you said and flushed when they all cheered and whistled at the mention of his name; their catcalls gained volume and enthusiasm when John walked through the bar door a second later, head on a swivel as he looked for you in the crowd.
“Fuck off,” you hissed at your friends playfully and hugged them all goodbye before you headed over to John. He was grinning and waved happily over to your friends, nudging you when he saw the embarrassed scrunch of your shoulders.
“Good night?” He asked once you were on the path outside.
“Yeah.” You smiled. “She deserved the raise like three years ago, but at least they’re finally recognising all the work she does.”
John nodded along. He cursed a moment later when he felt a few raindrops. You both looked up at the gentle patter and gasped when it quickly turned torrential.
Your walk turned into a run as John grabbed your hand tightly and led you a little shop alcove near by, shoving you under and crowding in after you.
“Shit, I should’ve driven,” he blamed himself, looking at your soggy jacket and the rain that had splattered your round cheeks.
“Don’t worry about it, John,” you waved it off. “Bit of rain never hurt anyone.”
The pair of you were pressed close, his broad shoulders and your wide hips taking up the space in the doorway enough that you were both holding your breath in each other’s space.
“Just my luck really,” you said.
“It’s just British weather,” John corrected. “Don’t know why I wasn’t expecting it to rain in the middle of summer,” he joked.
You laughed and felt butterflies flutter at his mirrored rumble, focused on where your stomach pressed against his. You no longer felt tired stood with him.
It went quiet, with just the soft rain and the sound of the odd car passing by the only things heard for a moment as you both held your breath, eyes locked.
You leant forward those last few inches and pressed your lips against his. Your noses bumped and you automatically lifted a hand to tilt his chin slightly to adjust, pressing your lips a little firmer when he followed your guiding hold. His hands on your hips were reverent as he let you lead.
You delighted in the scratch of his beard for a split second before suddenly flinching back, your hand becoming firm against his shoulder to keep him from following.
“Fuck,” you swore shakily. “I’m so sorry.”
“Don’t apologise,” he huffed with a confused smile.
“I shouldn’t have done that,” you insisted. You felt him lean towards you and firmed the stretch of your arm to keep him in place as best you could in the small space. “It’s mixed messages. It’s not fair to you.”
“I’m still waiting,” he admitted. “I’ll wait however long y’need, Sunshine.”
You ducked your head.
“I feel guilty,” you whispered. You swallowed thickly as the reasons were finally voiced even as you avoided his eyes. “I feel like it’s Charlotte all over again for you; I’m stringing you along when you could be finding someone else. I’m— it’s not fair,” you repeated.
He leant back in shock, a frown pulling at his brows and his mouth moving silently for a moment. John looked down at you from his tucked in chin and considered your comparison, knowing the quick denial on the tip of his tongue wouldn’t soothe you.
“Have you decided that then? You don’t want to be with me?” He asked finally.
You hesitated, unable to lie and say no, and he latched onto that with a fierce hold.
You thought back to what your friends had said, the fun you’d been having with him again, how natural it all was.
“Sunshine…”
“We could take it slow?” You asked.
“Of course,” he agreed readily, pushing those few inches closer to you in eagerness. “Slow and steady, whatever you need.”
“Ok.” You nodded.
“Ok?”
“I like you, John,” you admitted almost shyly, smiling up at him. “I want to try.”
In the next breath he ducked close to kiss you again.
You were pressed against the damp, grainy wall of the little alcove as he greedily slipped a hand beneath your shirt and hungrily kissed you, not stopping for a breath or a gasp now that you’d given the go ahead.
“W-what— happened t-to,” you gasped as he filled your space and every thought. The patter of the rain going unheard as his shaky breaths filled your ears and echoed torturously. “Take— taking it s-slow?”
He sucked on your lip before pulling back and panting, swapping breaths with you. “I’m not down on one knee, am I?” He asked as though you were being obtuse.
You snorted, eyes wide in disbelief. But you didn’t push him away, instead your grip kept him close.
He dipped in for another peck and you cupped his bearded cheeks.
“My house isn’t far from here,” you suggested softly. Testing the waters.
In a flash John was dragging you out of the alcove and down the street with you laughing as you splashed through the puddles to keep up with his determined pace.
“Wrong way, John,” you laughed and tugged at his arm, directing him the to follow you and head the other way towards your house. He crowded against your back, slightly off to the side, and you felt butterflies erupt at the sound of his low chuckle as your steps overlapped and you tripped each other in eagerness.
——
Once you were safely inside your home, it didn’t take long for you to get naked and climb on the bed. You dragged John along with you, clad still in his boxers.
He hovered over you as you laid back flat, his broad palms running from your ribs to your flank soothingly as he settled between your thick thighs.
His eyes were all black, the usual greyblue just a thin strip around the edges as he took you in in all your glory.
The need to make you keen and cream on his fingers was obvious by his hungry expression and the flexing of his hold on your softest parts.
“Been wanting this for too long, Sunshine,” he whispered. “Longer than you know.”
“Think I can guess,” you gasped as he lowered himself down and kissed your stomach, making sure to cover each curve and roll as he journeyed up, keeping his warm palms cupped and dragging up your sides as he kissed between your breasts. Your knees squeezed him at the ribs when he palmed one of your tits, using the light hold to lick a broad stripe over the sensitive nipple. He went back to kissing higher, trailing up along your stretched neck and biting teasingly at your earlobe before coming face to face.
“Any preferences?” Fingers, tongue, toys.
“I’d prefer to cum sooner than later,” you said cheekily, basking in his eye roll.
“Yes, ma’am,” he huffed good naturedly. “I’ll do my best.”
He leant down and kissed you, plunging and messy, not like the dry brush of lips in the rain or the rushed eager swaps of spit and squished smiles on the way home and into your bedroom. You brushed your hands over his furry chest and trembled pleasantly, raking your fingers through and sighing at the strength usually hidden beneath layers of baggy and comfortable clothing.
“John,” you sighed and he shuffled his way down back between your legs.
“Just lay back and relax,” he ordered before trailing his nose through your bush, huffing in an opened-mouthed breath with a pleased hum.
“Need a map?” You joked breathily, breath hitching when he huffed an amused breath at your opening, pressing a light kiss there afterwards. His thumb gently spread your vulva and he gave a gentle kitten lick. Using the building wetness he found he trailed his thumb lower to your arsehole and kept it there with little pressure.
“Nah, this is your clit, right?” he asked teasingly. You snorted, but felt your pussy clench and your muscles tense when he added a bit of pressure.
“John—“
“Relax,” he said again. He moved his attention and his hand back up. “Don’t need a guided tour, though I appreciate the offer; wouldn’t mind watching you show me what you like another day. But I know what I’m doing, love.”
He licked a stripe up your centre and your eyes fluttered, your hips pushing up into his hands when he puckered his wet lips around your clit and gently suckled. “Yeah, you do,” you whimpered.
He slipped his middle finger inside fluidly, no resistance, and you let out a soft sigh, your hips subtly raising to get him as deep as you could. He changed the angle of his mouth so his strong nose nudged at your bundle of nerves and he could mouth at your plush wet opening instead. He licked around his finger, adding to the sticky mess as you practically sucked him in.
He could tell by the flutters of your cunt that you were enjoying yourself, the pinch of your brow only adding to his confirmation when he looked up, but you were so quiet.
“Y’can be loud for me, Sunshine,” he said, curling his finger and grinning cheshire-cat-wide when your jaw dropped at the feeling. “Don’t be shy.”
“Give me reason to,” you said with a cut off gasp. “W-work for it.”
He felt heat rush to his core, fattening his already throbbing cock.
As you wish.
He hooked one trembling thigh over his meaty shoulder and focused back on the heat between your legs; like sticky syrup, slippery between the pads of his fingers as he dipped a second finger in beside the first.
He gave you a moment to clench around the thicker intrusion with closed eyes before setting a quicker, less forgiving pace than before. You let out a surprised grunt, your hand flying down to grip his hair as he sealed his lips to your clit with a wagging tongue.
“Fuck.”
His left hand moved to keep your hips still, strapped across your soft tummy like a seatbelt, his palm a firm pressure in the soft pudge below your bellybutton.
He broke the seal of his mouth to heave in a panting breath and nibbled at the soft skin of your thigh beside his head to catch his breath while his fingers continued to pull sweet noises from you.
You whimpered softly, dropping your hands to the mattress and clinging tight to the sheets and felt your cheeks heat up when John chuckled.
“Can’t tell what I prefer hearing,” he said and paused his fingers deep inside of you, spreading them to get a little look at the desperate cling of you around his long digits. Your creamy arousal slid down the back of his hairy knuckles and he revelled in the light squelch as you wriggled in his hold, urging his fingers deeper inside. “Your sweet cunt or your careful moans.”
“Please, John,” you asked. Pleaded. “I’m close.”
He slipped his fingers free of your tight clutch and shushed you with a smile when you whined. Licking his pruny fingers clean, he groaned at the taste.
“I’ll get you there, Sunshine, don’t worry.”
He left a wet smack of a kiss on your thigh before ducking back down and licking deep and insatiable into your needy cunt, his fingers focused on your sensitive clit instead, rubbing almost too hard and too fast as your hips pushed your cunt further into his mouth. His arm kept you locked close and unable to shift away, not that you wanted it to end, but the sudden onslaught of hyper-focused attention was a lot after his teasing and after so long without a partner. Your hand had made its way to the back of his head once more, cupping gently, but urging him forward with a steel determination. He wasn’t allowed back up for air until you’d cum.
He pinched your clit and you shrieked at the nip of pain beneath the pleasure, feeling yourself tumble over the edge as he huffed and grunted into your pussy like a man starved.
John held you close by the thighs with both hands as you arched and clenched on his tongue; slobbering and groaning against your tender vulva as you cried out. He gave your thigh one light but sharp slap as you flooded his senses; sweaty and salty, the taste and scent of you.
You collapsed back with a breathy little, hnngh, and let your fingers scratch lazily through his hair where he’d rested his face in the groove of your groin.
He hummed and dragged himself further up your body before slumping over you, kissing the taste of you into the back of your mouth, ingraining it into your tongue, gums and teeth as you whined and writhed beneath him.
“Jesus fucking christ,” you laughed tiredly into his mouth. “Gimme a chance.”
He smiled and ground himself against your hip. “Can’t help it, y’make me feel like a teenager.”
Your nose scrunched and he huffed a laugh. “A’right, won’t make that comparison again.”
You pecked his lips in thanks and slipped your hand down between you, gathering a glob of your own arousal between your fingers. Thoroughly lubed, you pushed your hand under the band of his boxers and rubbed the collected juices over his cock and watched his brow pinch in pleasure.
It was your turn to tease.
You leant up and kissed him open mouthed and slow, the tease of tongue against his lips as he humped against your hand, moans mingling in breaths shared.
You moved your hand lower, went to slip in a finger but he gripped your wrist tightly. You looked up with wide eyes, hand falling loose in his grip where it had stopped you in your tracks.
“No, not like that. I don’t— I don’t like—“
“That’s ok,” you interrupted his stuttering explanation, watching walls build up before your eyes that you were determined not to let solidify. He didn’t need them around you. “We can just keep doing it like before,” you offered easily with a smile and lingering kiss to his fuzzy cheek. “Whatever you want.”
John guided your hand back up hesitantly, watching you as though waiting for the other shoe to drop. He kept your fingers hovering over his cock once more and you pushed forward to rub from tip to root and back up again.
“Yeah?” You asked and watched as his shoulders relaxed again. He moved his arm to lean back on his elbow by your head and you smiled, satisfied with the show of trust. “Yeah, ok.”
You pushed against the spot just below the head of his cock, trapping it against his pubic mound and were gratified as he groaned low, like the sound was forcibly pulled out of him as he thrusted roughly against your fingers. John ducked his head and kissed you, missing the mark in his desperation and licking against the corner of your mouth instead.
You nudged your face up slightly and let him moan against your lips, quickly falling into the distraction of getting him dripping and close; pulling out all your tricks and feeling yourself get worked up in return whenever you felt him throb and pulse in your hand, his thick, hairy thighs shifting either side of yours.
He pulled back and you paused your ministrations immediately, worried you’d done something wrong again, but John hurriedly tugged his boxers down and off, kicking them away from the bed and diving back towards you with a ravenous kiss.
Rolling onto his back, John tugged you into his lap so you were straddling him and for the first time in his presence a burst of hesitance connected to your weight bloomed in your chest.
You lifted up on your knees slightly to relieve some of your weight from his hips.
“Oh, John I don’t know—“
“Come ‘ere, Sunshine,” he pulled your hips back down and urged you to ride him, moving with his own frotting hips as your vulva spread to soak around his cock.
With each grind, the head nudged slightly from its foreskin and kissed your clit perfect as you tilted back. You huffed a weak moan as he slipped through your folds and the schlickschlickschlick sounds of your combined arousal mingling and frothing between your thighs had you panting and moving quicker.
Once you found your pace, one hand balanced back on his hairy thigh and the other rubbing at your clit furiously, he lifted his hands from the fat of your hips and stomach up to thumb at your nipples.
You noticed how he moaned and tensed when you slipped heavily over his sensitive tip and grinned a little meanly as you focused a careful swivel of your hips to catch your slick centre on it. You clenched and gushed over his throbbing tip as he whined, gripping you tightly to try and pull you lower.
“Close?” You asked with a breathy giggle, feeling your own legs shake with the oncoming orgasm.
You traced gentle fingers over his faded top scars beneath his thick thatch of chest hair as he groaned and leant down to kiss him. It didn’t take much longer for you both to cum, both worked up and the constant, teasing brushes at your cores were enough to gradually tip you over the edge.
His hand in your hair kept your mouths attached as you panted hot and wet, and when you broke free to the side his beard was scratchy against your nose and cheek as you shuddered on top of him.
“John, fuck.”
“Just like that, just like that,” he thrusted up in jerky little motions before stilling.
You flopped to the side a moment later, less conscious of your weight but wanting to be comfortable, and he gathered you close immediately. He tucked you under his chin with a grunt, slipping a leg over yours.
“I’m not letting you out of this bed for a week,” he groaned sleepily. You hummed happily, exhausted. He let you drift off before whispering in your ear. “Sorry this isn’t slow, Sunshine, but I won’t be going back to being friends now.”
You grinned and nuzzled closer.
“I think we should go visit my home town next, only fair you meet my crazy family too, yeah?”
John closed his eyes happily and nodded. “Looking forward to it,” he said. “Though my rates are a little higher than £100.”
You pinched his thigh and laughed when he tried to squirm away with a hiss.
You kissed his neck chastely and tightened your arm around his waist, nodding off as you felt him trail a hand back and forth over your naked back.

Big giant thanks to @punkrockmlchael (who made my beautiful banner again and also beta read), @the-witty-pen-name , @fizzing-imagines, @losingmygrasponreality, @writhingg , and @lesservillain for bouncing ideas and beta reading! I couldn’t have written this without you. Also ignore that there’s only dividers for half the fic, apparently you can only add 10 images to a post 🙃

Best friends.
That’s what you and Eddie were, and always had been. Growing up as neighbors in Forest Hills, you met when you were 8 and Eddie was 10, after he moved in with his uncle.
To be honest with yourself, you had had a crush on Eddie Munson since the first time you laid eyes on him. A silly childhood crush at first, he was so cute with his curls, short at the time, and it made your heart beat fast whenever you walked to the store together for snacks and he held your hand.
He would play you all kinds of music you’d never heard before, heavy stuff that was totally new to you. You weren’t sure about it at first, but you grew to love it. When he got into D&D, he would talk your ear off about his campaign plans for hours. You didn’t mind. You liked listening to him talk. When he started Hellfire, you were the first member to join. You didn’t know how to play an instrument, but you were Corroded Coffin’s biggest fan.
Eddie was everything to you. He was the first person you went to with any news, the only one you were excited to tell anything and everything to. He took you to see every new slasher movie, bought you your first dice set. He was the first thing you thought about in the morning and the last you thought of at night. At some point, it turned into more than a crush.
At some point, you fell in love.
Eddie was oblivious. He never dated in high school, but that didn’t seem to bother him. You didn’t, either, but it was mostly because you were so preoccupied with loving Eddie. You tried dropping hints, but he never seemed to figure it out. You were too scared to just get it over with and tell him outright.
So, you remained best friends. Just friends.
“Are you going to prom this year?” Wayne asked, sipping his beer as he sat relaxed in his recliner. Eddie nursed his own beer, feet up on the coffee table.
“Nah,” Eddie said. “You know that’s…not my thing.”
“You should go at least once,” Wayne said. “Might regret it.”
“I doubt it.”
“I had a great time at my senior prom,” Wayne reminisced, smiling at the memory. “You should give it a shot, Ed. Why don’t you take your little friend from next door?”
Eddie shook his head. “I don’t feel that way about her.”
“You can go as friends,” he pointed out. “I’m sure she’d like that. Girl adores you.”
“I’m pretty sure she has a crush on me,” Eddie winced, sipping his beer. “I don’t want to give her the wrong idea.”
“You don’t have to marry her, Ed. Just show her a good time. You two have been so close for so long, I’m sure she would understand.”
Eddie thought about it. He didn’t want to go to prom, like at all, but he wanted to make his uncle happy. And if he had to go with someone, it might as well be you, his only female friend, right?
So, he approached you at your locker the next day at school. “Hey.”
You turned to him, your face immediately lighting up with a huge smile. “Hey, Eds.”
“I, uh,” Eddie looked around awkwardly. “I just wanted to ask if you’d want to go to…prom with me?”
Your eyes went wide, but inside your heart was thundering out of your chest. Had Eddie really just asked you out? “Prom? Really? I thought you hated prom?”
“Yeah, well,” Eddie rubbed the back of his neck. “It’s my last senior year. Hopefully, at least. I figured I might as well give it a shot. We can pre game and sneak in some alcohol. And if it’s lame, we can ditch.”
You couldn’t wipe the huge smile off your face. You were almost a little concerned at how hard your heart was beating in that moment, like it would give out. “I’d love to go with you.”
Eddie gave you a soft smile. “Cool. I’ll pick you up at 6 that night.”
You watched as Eddie left, heading in the direction of his next class of the day. You waited until he was out of sight before you went sprinting in the direction of Robin’s locker.
You found her there, taking her books out. She startled when you ran up on her, placing her hand over her chest. “Jesus. What’s up with you?”
“Eddie just asked me to prom,” you blurted out. Robin’s jaw dropped open.
“No way!” She exclaimed, her look of shock turning to one of pure excitement. “This is huge. I always knew he was into you.”
You blushed. “I don’t know. I had given up hope of him liking me back. This was so out of the blue. I didn’t even think he wanted to go to prom at all.”
“Maybe he’s just better at hiding his feelings,” Robin offered. “Either way, we’re going dress shopping. Prom is only two weeks away!”
That weekend, Robin convinced her mom to drive the two of you to Indianapolis to go shopping in the big city. You were both giddy with excitement - Robin wasn’t much of a dress girl, and she didn’t have a date. The only person she wanted to take, she couldn’t ask. You were pretty sure Vickie was into girls and Robin in particular, but Robin was still too scared to make the move. You didn’t blame her. It wasn’t like typical rejection if things went wrong. So, instead, Robin was going with a group of girls from the marching band as friends.
Her mom took you to the huge mall, which was much more impressive than Starcourt. It was huge, with a ton of different stores. You made a stop at Camelot Music first, where Robin got a new Blondie tape and you grabbed the new The Smiths record and a Metallica Master of Puppets tape for Eddie, since his had recently broken.
Next was the formal wear store. You were both immediately overwhelmed when you walked in, the racks and racks of fancy dresses as far as the eye could see. All different colors, lengths, and styles. It was…a lot.
“Well…I guess let’s get started,” Robin said, her voice unsure.
You probably tried on 50 dresses each. You and Robin giggled as you tried on the dresses her mom picked for you, big floofy pink and blue monstrosities.
“You look like a marshmallow. Like a big pink marshmallow,” Robin had commented.
“Yeah?” You laughed, gesturing towards her powder blue gown. “Well, you look like a wedding cake.”
An hour and a half into dress shopping, you were both getting tired and totally over it. You had the last gown you’d picked out in your hand, and you told yourself if you hated this one, too, you’d just say fuck it and go to prom in your ripped jeans.
You pulled the dress over your head, smoothing it down your body. When you turned and looked into the mirror, you gasped. You actually looked…beautiful.
The dark purple dress hugged your curves, pushing your breasts up and making them look much sexier (and perkier) than they really were. The skirt fell above your knees, showing off your legs. You did a little twirl, the skirt swishing around your thighs. You loved it, it was by far the best one you’d tried on.
“Are you alive in there?” Robin called from outside the dressing room, and you smiled to yourself.
“I think we have a winner,” you called back.
“Ooh!” Robin said just as you moved the curtain and walked out. You saw Robin standing in a dark blue dress that looked beautiful on her, the skirt long but flattering.
“Oh my god,” she said. “You look stunning! Eddie is going to lose his mind.”
You blushed at the mention of Eddie. “You do too!” And she did. Finally, you had both found something.
After you left the dress shop with your bags in hand, you were both feeling much happier. You made a stop at Afterthoughts, where you found some earrings and a necklace to match your dress.
You couldn’t believe you were going to prom, and with Eddie. It was a dream come true.
You couldn’t wait.
Prom night, you were shaking as you got ready. The dress was just as beautiful as you remembered. The jewelry you had picked out matched your dress even better than you’d hoped.
Eddie picked you up right on time. He smiled at you awkwardly when he picked you up, holding a corsage in his hand. “Hey.”
You beamed at him. “Hi. Is…that for me?”
“Oh, yeah.” He looked at it like he had forgotten he had it. “You look pretty,” he told you as he slipped the corsage onto your wrist. You blushed as you pinned the boutonnière to his black suit jacket.
“You look handsome yourself,” you told him shyly.
Eddie drove the two of you to the school. The parking lot was packed with students’ cars and even a few rented limousines. Just as you were about to get out of the van, Eddie stopped you. He reached into his glove compartment and pulled out two black flasks, handing one to you.
“This should make this night a lot more fun, yeah?” He smirked. You smiled back, before making a face as you took a sip of the burning liquid. Eddie laughed, which made you start giggling, too.
You took a photo together at the booth near the gym doors, which Eddie wasn’t super excited about. The next thing he did was head for the food, piling a tiny plate full of appetizers. You followed him, grabbing a cup of punch to help wash down the liquor in your purse.
Eddie wouldn’t dance with you until after he’d finished his flask, claiming it was stupid and he wouldn’t be caught dead dancing at prom. But by the time he finished it, he had enough of a buzz that he didn’t care. You were tipsy, too, and absolutely elated when he stood and took your hand, leading you to the floor just as a slow song came on.
Eddie playfully groaned, rolling his eyes, but he pulled you close to his body anyway. Butterflies took flight in your stomach as he placed his hands on your hips and you wrapped yours around his neck. The two of you swayed together in time to the music. You could not stop smiling. You laid your head on Eddie’s chest, tuning out the music as you listened to his heartbeat.
After prom, you headed back to the van. You’d had the best night of your life, one you would never forget. Yeah, you were both a little bit intoxicated, but you were floating on the clouds for a whole different reason.
“D’you want to come back to my place?” Eddie asked as he started the engine. “We could drink a little more, smoke a joint. Wayne’s working.”
You wanted nothing more. “Yeah, that sounds good.”
At the trailer, Eddie rolled up a thick joint as you gathered the bottles of liquor and shot glasses from the cabinet. Eddie was back in normal clothes, and you’d changed into one of Eddie’s shirts and a pair of his sweatpants that were too big on you.
Eddie sparked up the joint as you poured each of you two shots of tequila. You clinked your glasses together before downing them both. Eddie took the first drag on the joint, his eyes falling closed as he inhaled the thick smoke. He looked gorgeous like this, curls still tamed and framing his face. The smoke escaped through his perfect lips, trailing up and throughout the bedroom. He handed the joint to you, and you gratefully took it, bringing it to your painted lips. Some of your lipstick had rubbed off on the shot glasses, leaving a stain.
As the night went on, the two of you got progressively more drunk and high. By the time it was 2am, the two of you were giggling messes, listening to music over the stereo and talking about the latest campaign. Suddenly, in your drunkenly stoned haze, you remembered the gift stashed in your purse.
“Oh!” You exclaimed, jumping up to grab your small bag. “I forgot. I got you something.”
“You got me something?” Eddie asked, confused, his words slightly slurring together.
You reached into the purse and pulled out the bag from Camelot. You hoped he loved it, because now that it was in your hands, you were suddenly nervous. You turned, smiling softly as you handed Eddie the bag. “I just saw it while I was at the mall with Robin and I thought of you.”
Eddie raised his eyebrows at you as he took the bag. He reached inside and pulled out the Metallica tape, a huge grin spreading across his face immediately. “Shit! You didn’t have to do this. But it’s fuckin’ awesome you did.”
You giggled, flopping back onto the bed next to him. You laid with your head on his pillow, smiling up at Eddie from where he sat next to you. “I’m glad you like it. I know yours broke. Probably because you play it all the time.”
Eddie poked you in the side, making you laugh harder. “Shut up, Freak. You love Master of Puppets just as much as I do.”
“That’s true,” you conceded. You looked up at him, his chocolate brown eyes gazing down at you. They sparkled, like his personality was shining its way through. He had a strong nose, kissable lips. God, you wanted to kiss those lips.
Eddie had never realized how pretty you were. He always just saw you as his long time best friend, the girl who definitely crushed on him but he never saw that way. He still didn’t think he had feelings for you, but…you were pretty.
“Have you ever kissed a guy before?” He asked, pushing a section of hair off your shoulder.
You blushed at the question. You didn’t have much experience, your love life was nonexistent. But you had kissed someone, at least. “Yeah. Tommy Hagan in 7th grade.”
Eddie’s eyes went wide. “Tommy Hagan? That dickhead? You never told me that.”
You shrugged, your cheeks red and hot. “It didn’t mean anything. I got invited to Heather Holloway’s birthday party and he was there. We all played spin the bottle. It only lasted two seconds and we never really talked again.” Eddie hummed. “What about you?”
It was Eddie’s turn to look sheepish. “Uh, yeah. A girl at school, Chrissy, in 8th grade. We didn’t date or anything.”
Now it was your turn to be shocked. “Chrissy Cunningham? You didn’t tell me that, either!” He had never mentioned her. You knew it was stupid, but you were struck with jealousy at his words.
“It was nothing,” he said, brushing it off.
“Look at us,” you laughed. “18 and almost 20, and we’re still a couple of virgins.”
Eddie looked down at you, something unfamiliar swimming behind his eyes. He had never wanted to kiss you before this moment, but now... “I mean, we can change that.”
Your heart stopped in your chest. “What do you mean?”
Eddie thought about it for a moment. This could be a point of no return, a step in a direction he didn’t want to take. But in his drunk and high mind…he wanted it. He wanted you.
He leaned forward slowly, so slowly. Your breath hitched in your throat right before his lips pressed against yours. They were just as soft as you always dreamed they were, and your mind went even more hazy from his kisses.
Neither of you were experienced at all and you were both pretty intoxicated, so the kiss was a little awkward and desperate. All tongues and teeth clashing together, hungry for one another. Eddie’s hand slid beneath your t-shirt - his Hellfire shirt - trailing up your smooth skin until he reached your breasts. You hadn’t worn a bra with your dress, so you were bare chested beneath the thin shirt. His calloused fingers delicately grazed your nipples, making you shiver. You’d never been touched there before, never felt anything like this. Being touched by Eddie was so much different than being touched by your own hand.
“I love your tits,” Eddie mumbled against your lips between kisses. You hummed, arching your back into his touch.
“Feels good, Ed,” you moaned quietly, body turning into pure electricity under his wandering touch. Your own hand tangled in the curls at the back of his neck, loving the way your bodies molded together, the feeling of his body finally pressed up against your own.
“Yeah?” He squeezed your breast one more time before his hand moved to your back, sliding down your body until he grabbed your ass, pulling you into him. You gasped, feeling how hard he was through his own sweatpants. “You feel how hard I am?”
“Yeah,” you whispered back. You moved your hand to his chest, sliding it down his body until you reached the tent in his pants. He groaned as you felt him, squeezing his cock through the material.
Eddie sat up, pulling his shirt over his head and tossing it somewhere on the floor. You eyed his bare chest, the tattoos adorning his pale skin. You traced a finger over the design on the left side of his chest. God, he was so hot.
His hands slid up your shirt, pulling it up and off. His gaze dropped straight to your tits, he was practically drooling. He reached for the waistband of your sweatpants next, pulling them down your body slowly, leaving you in nothing but your panties. You were grateful you picked something pretty, red and lace.
“So sexy,” Eddie moaned. He leaned forward and kissed your stomach, which startled you a little. He trailed kisses up your body until he reached your breasts, where he ran his tongue over one of your nipples before wrapping his lips around it. You moaned as you arched into his touch, his mouth, whatever he would give you.
His hand slid down your body slowly, slowly, until it reached your panties. He slipped beneath them, fingers dipping between your folds. He could feel how insanely wet you were, and it only made his cock harder.
“So wet for me,” he said. “Bet you can’t wait for my cock.”
You whimpered as he pressed a finger against your entrance. Slowly, carefully he pushed it inside, stretching you for the first time. You gasped at the intrusion, but the pain faded quickly. Eddie slowly pumped his long finger in and out of your pussy, pressing against something deep inside that felt incredible as he curled his finger against it. He added a second finger shortly after, and the stretch was more intense, but from the feeling of the size of his cock in your hand, you knew it wouldn’t even be comparable.
Eddie fingered you a little longer, getting you nice and wet and ready for him, before he removed his hand and slipped your panties off. Now bare before him, he drank you in with his hungry eyes. His cock twitched in his pants.
You helped him push them down his hips, and he kicked them off onto the floor. He didn’t have boxers on underneath, and his dick was so much more impressive once fully revealed. It was big enough that it made you feel scared even through your mind haze.
“You can take it,” he assured you, his words still slightly slurred. “I know you can.”
He reached over you into the bedside table and pulled out an unopened box of condoms. “Finally get to use these,” he laughed, taking one out of the box and ripping it open. You watched as he slid the rubber over his hard cock, tip red and glistening. You wished you could have had a taste.
Eddie got in between your legs, kissing all over your neck before meeting your lips again. His tongue pressed into your mouth immediately, attempting to distract you from the pain where he was lining himself up and slowly beginning to push inside.
You whined as he began to fill you, inch by thick inch. When he was fully seated inside he pulled back and snapped his hips back into you, making you gasp. He set a quick pace, desperately rutting into you as he chased his pleasure, his drunken rhythm sloppy and uneven.
You held onto him tightly as he fucked into you, and he groaned into your neck where he had his face buried. “Feels so good,” he moaned, not exactly caring how you felt, only worried about his own quickly impending orgasm. It was his first time and he was not going to last.
“Eddie,” you whined, “you’re so big.”
He groaned at that. “Yeah, baby? You like it?”
“Mmhmm,” you moaned, and it did feel good, but he was also splitting you in half.
“Fuck,” he hissed, “I’m gonna cum. I’m gonna fucking cum.”
He pumped into you just a couple more times before he was stilling, buried to the hilt inside you as he filled the condom. He moaned loudly, body trembling on top of you as he rode out his orgasm. You didn’t get to cum, but you were too drunk to care.
Eddie pulled out, removing the condom and tying it off before tossing it into the trash can. He collapsed onto the bed next to you, his naked body sweaty, chest heaving.
“That was…good,” you said, not knowing if it was or not. You were happy to have lost your virginity to Eddie, and the whole night had been a dream. But he hadn’t exactly cared about your pleasure. You waited for Eddie to reply, to say anything, but nothing came.
He was already snoring.
The unbearably bright light shining through the window around his curtains is the first thing Eddie experienced the next morning. It woke him up, but he only squeezed his eyes shut tighter, groaning as the light made his pounding headache infinitely worse. Fuck, he drank way too much last night.
He barely even remembered it. He remembered the prom, he remembered drinking a lot, doing shots, and smoking a joint. He remembered you, but his memory was hazy. How did you get home anyway? He didn’t remember driving you home after prom.
Eddie stretched, his muscles stiff. He was naked beneath his blanket, which wasn’t entirely unusual. He probably just didn’t feel like changing once he got his suit off.
Eventually he figured he should get out of bed. He rolled over and stood with another old man groan. Fuck, he had to cut back on the drinking, because he definitely felt a lot older than 19 right now.
He pulled on some boxers and a pair of sweatpants he found on the floor, remaining shirtless. Wayne would be passed out in his own bedroom after a long night of work at the plant. But Eddie was starving, and he needed something for that headache.
When he stepped out of the room, the first thing he noticed was the smell. Something delicious was wafting from the kitchen, the smell of bacon overpowering some other food scents. That was weird. Wayne didn’t cook breakfast, not the morning after a work night. He walked down the hall cautiously, brows furrowed as he neared the end of the hallway. He turned the corner, and froze.
You were there in the kitchen, expertly flipping a pancake in a pan. A plate sat on the counter next to you filled with bacon, and another pan on the next burner was cooking scrambled eggs. Oh, and you were dressed in nothing but Eddie’s oversized t-shirt and your underwear.
Oh shit, Eddie thought. What the fuck did I do?
The floor creaked as he stepped into the kitchen, and you turned around, a smile spreading across your lips at the sight of him. “Hey, sleepyhead. I made us some breakfast. Thought you could use something on your stomach.”
Eddie didn’t know what to say or do. Did he sleep with you? Oh god. He was going to be sick. “Uh, good morning. You, uh, didn’t have to do all this.”
He watched as you plated the finished pancakes and eggs. “I thought we could both use a big breakfast after last night,” you said, giving him a smirk. Oh, shit. He did sleep with you last night. He drunkenly lost his virginity after prom, to you.
Fuck. He was a fucking idiot.
You started making plates for the both of you. “I set out a water bottle and some Tylenol for you over there,” you said, nodding to the corner of the counter. Eddie took the medicine immediately, desperate for some relief from his unbearable headache. Now he wasn’t sure what was making it worse, the hangover or the knowledge of what he’d done.
He sat down across from you at the small table. He didn’t know what to say. Your friendship would never be the same after this. He knew you liked him, he didn’t like you, then he slept with you. Now he had to crush your heart. He really felt like he was going to be sick.
“Did you sleep okay?” You finally asked as the two of you ate, breaking the silence.
“Huh?” Eddie snapped back to reality. “Oh. Yeah.”
You smiled softly at him. You figured he was just still cloudy from the weed. “I had a good time last night.”
“Yeah…” Eddie said. “Me too.”
Your face lit up at that, and he could have slapped himself. He didn’t mean that. He didn’t even remember the sex. He was not doing a good job of not leading you on. “Listen,” he said, “about that-“
“It was really good,” you said. Eddie’s watched as your cheeks turned red and you looked down at your plate. “Sorry. I just meant…I enjoyed it. Being with you.”
Eddie had suspected, known even, that you had a crush on him, but this was the first time you’d ever admitted it out loud. Eddie was really going to have to stomp on your heart to put an end to those thoughts, and it was all his fault. He never should have brought you home after prom. “Look, I-“
“I didn’t think you liked me back,” you continued, rambling nervously, excitedly. “I…to be honest with you I’ve had a crush on you for years, but I was always too scared to tell you. But you never seemed like you were into me…until last night.” You giggled, covering your mouth. “I can’t believe we’re together now.”
Together?
Oh, fuck. He couldn’t do this. He could not do this. He couldn’t crush your spirit, wipe that elated smile off your face. He’d never seen you look so happy. He felt like the biggest asshole.
“Oh, yeah,” he said instead. “Um, me either.”
“I can’t wait to tell Robin,” you continued. “She’s going to freak.”
Eddie couldn’t believe he had gotten himself into this situation.
Sure, you were his best friend so he liked your personality, and it’s not like you weren’t cute, but he just didn’t have feelings for you in the way you did for him. But now he had slept with you and you thought he liked you back. He had somehow, some way, become your actual boyfriend.
“I thought you didn’t like her like that?” Gareth asked the next school day after prom at lunch. You were sitting with Robin today. You often bounced between the marching band table and the Hellfire table.
“I don’t,” Eddie said simply.
Gareth, Jeff, and Grant looked at him like he was crazy. “Then how…why…?”
Eddie slammed his hand on the table. “Stop grilling me, okay?”
“Someone’s cranky,” Jeff muttered, turning back to his lunch tray in front of him.
“Yeah, you’re in a pretty shitty mood to be the only one of us to lose his virginity and get a girlfriend,” Grant commented. Gareth and Jeff agreed, nodding along.
“Yeah, well,” Eddie muttered. “Would be nice if it was with someone I’m actually into.”
“Harsh,” Gareth tsked. “You should be honest with her. You’re just leading her on.”
“I can’t.” Eddie buried his face in his hands, exasperated and stressed. “It’s gone too far. She thinks I’m her boyfriend. She thinks I like her back. I can’t crush her like that.”
The other three boys exchanged a look. “So…you’re just gonna marry her?” Grant asked.
Eddie froze. That is where this would eventually lead if he didn’t turn it around. But he was scared. He couldn’t bring himself to burst your bubble. “I’ll figure something out.”
As lunch was ending, Eddie jolted when you came up behind him, wrapping your arms around his neck and giving him a kiss on the cheek. “Hey, babe,” you giggled. “How was lunch?”
“Good,” Eddie said, giving each Hellfire boy a look that said don’t say or do a damn thing.
“You guys are so cute,” Robin said, holding her hands over her chest as she tilted her head to the side with a smile. “I’m so happy you’re finally together.”
Eddie felt sick. Just like he had all weekend, since the morning after prom. “Yeah,” he said. “I’m a lucky guy.”
Your whole face lit up with a smile. “I was thinking maybe we could hang out after school. Do our homework and work on the Curse of Vecna.”
Eddie groaned internally. This was such a disaster. “Sure.”
That day after school Eddie drove you back to his place. He reluctantly did his homework with you, mostly copying your answers rather than actually learning anything. Then the two of you laid on his bed and made out.
Hey, if he was going to be stuck in this relationship with someone he didn’t actually care for, the least he could do was take advantage of the benefits.
You spent four years with Eddie before you started noticing something was off.
It was the scent you started noticing on his clothes at first, like flowers and vanilla. You lifted his shirt from the laundry, the unexpected smell hitting you. You didn’t own anything that smelled like this, and Eddie certainly didn’t. You knew the smell of his cheap cologne better than anything, the amount of times you’d laid your head on his chest and smelled that distinctly Eddie scent. Something was wrong.
When you confronted him about it, he brushed it off. “It’s this new girl at work. Her perfume is so strong, everyone smells like it.”
You accepted the answer for the time being. But then there were other things you began to notice. A scrunchie that definitely didn’t belong to you on the floor of the passenger side of his van. A condom wrapper in the bathroom trash after you’d been out of town for the weekend. And finally, a pair of pink panties stuffed into the back pocket of his jeans that were so clearly not yours it was nearly comical if it hadn’t made you want to die.
When you confronted him about it the next time, it was with tears in your eyes and a lump in your throat. “Eddie,” you said, your voice cracking as you tossed the panties onto the floor in front of where he sat on the couch. “What are these?”
Eddie knew he had been caught. There was no getting out of it this time. You didn’t own any underwear like that, and it was the wrong size. How could he have been so stupid to have kept the panties? “I…”
“Really?” You sobbed. “You have nothing to say?”
“I’m not sure what you want me to say.” Eddie looked down at his hands. “Yeah, I’ve been sleeping with someone else.”
Even though you already knew his words were true, they still hit you right in the heart. You could feel it cracking, could feel the fault lines forming, the blood and life seeping out of it. “With who?” You asked, barely audible. You weren’t sure if you wanted the answer, but you needed it.
“That’s not important-“
“It is important,” you said. “It’s important to me.”
Eddie didn’t respond at first. He didn’t want to respond. “Chrissy Cunningham,” he answered reluctantly at last. “But don’t pull her into this, she doesn’t deserve to be-“
“Chrissy Cunningham?” You scoffed. “Eddie, we’ve been together for four years. Chrissy knows we’re together. So she was just fine sleeping with a guy she knew was taken?” You laughed humorlessly through the tears. “Wow. You guys are perfect for each other, then.”
Eddie shook his head. “Don’t do that, man, she-“
“‘Man’?” You couldn’t believe the conversation you were having. “Wow, I sure got demoted from baby fast, huh?”
He rubbed his hands over his face. “Please. I don’t wanna do this. I don’t feel like doing this.”
“Then maybe you shouldn’t have cheated!” You yelled back. “Why would you do this? How could you do this to me? I thought you loved me.”
Eddie mumbled something under his breath, something you couldn’t catch.
“What?” You asked. “I can’t hear you. Just fucking tell me. Why would you do this to me?”
When Eddie looked up at you, his eyes were full of anger, flames flickering behind his normally sweet doe eyes. The ones you had gazed into, taken comfort in so many times. When he opened his mouth, nothing but poison seeped out.
“Because I never loved you!” Eddie yelled, hands running through his hair to the point he was practically pulling it out. You had never seen him so upset. “Fuck! I went out with you because we were friends and I felt bad, and by the time we’d been together for months it was too late. I never liked you back like that. That’s the truth, finally.”
His words hit you like a shot to the chest. You stared at him with your lips parted, staggering gasps being dragged into your lungs. You shook uncontrollably as if it were suddenly freezing. But the tears didn’t yet fall. You felt like you might be in shock. “How…”
“How did I pretend to be in love with you?” He scoffed. “I didn’t do a very good job of it, but it doesn’t seem like you ever noticed. You were so blinded by who you wanted me to be, you couldn’t see what was right in front of you. Hey, as long as I came home and fucked you before passing out next to you, you just took it.” He laughed, a cruel, sinister laugh. “You just let me treat you like shit. Like you have no respect for yourself, or were just that obsessed with me.”
You didn’t even know who this was in front of you right now. This person who looked like Eddie, sounded like Eddie, but was spewing such horrible, hurtful words that Eddie never would. You didn’t recognize him at all. You wanted to blame his words on his heightened emotions, but you could tell everything he said was true. Especially with the cheating to back it up.
That’s not how you treated someone you cared about.
“So you just led me on for four years instead of telling me?” You asked. There was no fight behind your voice like there was in his. Only hurt and defeat. “Eddie…even before all this, you were my best friend. How could you do this to me?”
He didn’t have an answer for that. Because he was a selfish idiot coward? That was the truth. “Look, me and Chrissy- it just happened. It wasn’t supposed to, but it did. She came in to the Hideout, we got to talking-“
“And you fucked her?” You finished for him.
He just looked at you. “Yeah.”
The truth was, Eddie felt bad. He knew he had fucked up astronomically bad. He had led you on, used your body, betrayed you. Wasted four years of your life. He knew you thought he was the one, he knew you were waiting for a proposal that was never going to come. It was his fault things had gotten this far.
Maybe he thought he could fake it ‘til he made it. Maybe he thought if he pretended to be into you, eventually he would be. But that never happened.
And now you were crying, hard. His chest ached for some reason, even though he had no right to hurt for what he had done to you. He deserved to feel like shit.
He wasn’t prepared for the next words that came out of your mouth.
“I’m pregnant, Eddie,” you said, eyes squeezed shut as if that would stop the torrent of tears currently streaming down your face. There was no response. You had to force yourself to open your eyes and look, wondering if he was even still there.
He was. He stared at you, brown eyes wide, mouth hanging slightly open. “You’re- no.”
“I am,” you said, voice hoarse from crying. “I…”
Eddie shook his head. “No. No, no, no. This is not happening. It’s not fucking happening.”
You only cried harder. The pregnancy hormones had nothing to do with this; this was pure devastation, pure heartbreak. Your heart felt like it had crumbled in your chest and there was nothing left to repair even if you could.
“Let me see the test,” he said, holding a hand out.
“Why would I lie?” You asked, voice weak. You were so emotionally worn out, you felt like you could sleep for weeks. Months. Years. You wanted to.
“Because you want me to stay with you?” He scoffed. “Look, I’m not saying you’re lying, but I want to see to be sure.”
You just stared at him. Finally, you said “Fine,” going into your shared bedroom and coming out with a piece of paper with your office visit report. “I went to the doctor. Here.”
Eddie took the paper from your hands, examining it carefully. Sure enough, under “Reason for Visit/Diagnosis”, it said “Pregnancy - 8 weeks”.
“Christ,” Eddie said. He rubbed his hands over his face, like he was trying to erase the information from his brain. He was panicked. He couldn’t be a dad. Not right now, maybe not ever. He didn’t even know if he wanted kids. And with you? His soon to be ex girlfriend who he had treated like shit and didn’t love? “I mean fuck, man. What are we going to do?”
“I don’t know,” you said. Your voice was small, like all the fight had left you.
Eddie felt like he had ruined his life. For one thing, you were both still so young. That was without even mentioning the mess of a ‘relationship’ he had gotten himself involved in, the fact that it would never work out even if he wanted it to because he didn’t have feelings for you, and now he was standing here crushing his pregnant girlfriend’s heart. Like an asshole.
He was an asshole, and he knew it.
“Look,” he said finally. “If there’s really a kid-“
“There is.”
Eddie continued. “I’m not gonna abandon it. I’ll…be here. I’ll pay child support, I want to share custody, I want to be involved.”
You nodded. At least there was that, you supposed. As heart broken as you were, as much as you felt like going to sleep and never waking up again, you couldn’t bear the thought of Eddie leaving both of you. This baby deserved better.
“Look, I…I need some time. I’m gonna go stay with Wayne for a little while. Until I can get my own place.” Eddie looked at you with pity now, the news of the pregnancy dousing the fire of his earlier cruelty. “You can keep the apartment. We’ve got the guest room for the baby, unless you decide to move out.”
You just nodded again. “Okay, Eddie.”
The two of you looked at each other. This wasn’t just the end of your apparent farce of a relationship, but also of your nearly lifelong friendship. Things between you and Eddie would never be the same again. He had taken your heart you gave to him and stomped on it, spit on it.
That was the thing you couldn’t get past. He hadn’t just rejected you, he had destroyed you. The cheating, the lying. Playing you like a fucking game. Like you meant nothing not just to him, but at all. You didn’t know how you’d ever learn to trust again, or if you even wanted to. Eddie slept on the couch that night, too late at night to drive to Wayne’s.
When you woke up the next morning, he was gone.
Your pregnancy was difficult. You had severe morning sickness in the beginning - hyperemesis gravidarum, your doctor called it. You struggled to keep any food down, and ended up hospitalized for fluids multiple times. Your doctor was concerned and considered you a high risk pregnancy. You went from monthly doctor visits to weekly. You felt pretty sure your emotional devastation wasn’t helping your physical health whatsoever.
Eddie was helpful, at least. He called you every couple of days to see how you were doing and if you needed anything. He remembered your appointment days and called to ask what the doctor said. He shopped for your groceries for you and dropped them off at the house. It would have felt nice, if you didn’t know he was only doing it for the baby and not you, and if you didn’t know he was still sleeping with Chrissy.
You went through most of the pregnancy alone. At 16 weeks, you noticed a bump for the first time, standing in front of your full length mirror as you got ready for work. It took you by surprise, this little baby bump that seemed to have popped up overnight. You ran your hand over the skin there, surprised by how firm it felt. There was really a little baby in there.
You had an ultrasound that afternoon. You were thrilled to see the baby, one of the only things you looked forward to anymore. The technician showed you your baby, thriving and wiggling around in there. It made your heart swell. She measured the heartbeat and played it out loud, the little whoosh whoosh whoosh comforting.
Eddie came to the apartment that evening to bring you the baby swing he had bought. You were in the kitchen cooking yourself chicken alfredo for dinner, wearing a thin tank top and your short sleep shorts. Eddie let himself in, since he still had a key in case of emergencies. You weren’t surprised to hear him coming in since he’d told you he’d be over.
You heard his footsteps heading into the kitchen, then - “Woah.”
You turned from where you’d been stirring the sauce, raising an eyebrow at him. “What?”
He gestured towards your stomach. “You, uh…your…”
You laughed lightly. “The bump? Yeah, that’s new.”
Eddie walked over towards you, leaning against the counter next to the stove. He didn’t know how to feel about it. It was strange to see, and it made him feel weird in his chest. Something he’d never felt before. “It’s…it’s cute. You look cute.”
You laughed again. “I’m about to get a lot bigger.”
The two of you stood in silence for a minute. Then, finally, Eddie worked up the courage to ask - “Can I…can I feel?”
You were surprised by the question. Sure, Eddie had been pretty devoted to this baby during the pregnancy, but it still caught you off guard. “Oh. Sure.”
You turned and he walked up to you cautiously. He raised his hands, slowly moving them towards you as he looked up at you for confirmation it was still okay. Finally he placed his hands on your belly, feeling the firm bump beneath his hands. It was real. He knew it was real, but now it was real.
“Wow,” he said after a minute. “That’s…wow.” He gently rubbed the bump, in shock that that was his child beneath his hand.
“I got an ultrasound today,” you said. “Want to see?”
“Of course,” he answered immediately. He watched as you headed into the living room, already developing the slightest little waddle. He couldn’t help but smile.
You pulled the printed photos from your purse, bringing them over. Eddie gently took them from your hands. “Holy shit!” He said, laughing as he closely examined the photos. “It really looks like a little baby now instead of a blob.”
“Yeah,” you agreed with a smile. “They said we’d find out if it’s a boy or a girl at the next one. At 20 weeks.”
Eddie’s eyes darted up to you. “Really? Can I…go?”
You raised your eyebrows. “Really? You want to come with me to the appointment?”
“Yeah, of course. I want to know what we’re having. I want to be there myself.”
You bit the inside of your cheek, thinking about it. “How will Chrissy feel about that?”
Eddie’s expression hardened for the first time since he’d come over. “I can do whatever I want. And we’re not talking about her right now.”
You rolled your eyes, heading back into the kitchen to tend to your dinner. “I guess you can come, Eddie. It’s your baby too. But don’t bring her.”
“I’m not,” he assured you. You thought he’d have to be a fucking idiot to bring her, anyway. “I just want to be there.”
You felt like you couldn’t take that from him. If he wanted to be an involved father, he could. You encouraged that, in fact. This baby didn’t deserve to be born into the mess that was your relationship, or what used to be your relationship. Your issues with Eddie needed to be put aside for the sake of your child.
So, four weeks later, you waddled your 20 week pregnant self down the stairs of your apartment complex and into Eddie’s van where he sat idling, waiting to pick you up. He helped you climb in, and you waved him off when he tried to buckle you up. “I’ve got it, Eddie. I’m not totally helpless.”
“I know,” he said, “I just want to help.”
You rode to the doctor’s office without speaking, the only sounds being the heavy music playing over the stereo. You couldn’t stand it. Since the break up, you couldn’t listen to Eddie’s music anymore. Too many memories, too many associations.
When he pulled up at the office, he hopped out quickly to run around and offer you a hand as you carefully climbed down. The bump was significantly bigger already, it was in the way and threw off your center of balance. And Eddie was not about to let you fall and hurt yourself and the baby.
You had grown to know the staff at the office since you were there so often. They greeted you by name the second you walked in, looking pleased to see you. In the exam room, Eddie sat in the visitor’s chair, looking as awkward as he felt.
When the tech walked in, she barely managed to contain the surprise on her face to see Eddie with you. You had been to every appointment alone, and they knew you weren’t together with the father. But she quickly plastered a smile to her face, walking over to you.
“Are you excited?” She asked you. “It’s a big day!”
“So excited,” you giggled. “I’m ready to know.”
You laid back and lifted your shirt up and she squirted the cold gel onto your belly, your least favorite part. She placed the wand on your stomach and began moving it around. There was a screen only she could see, and a bigger screen facing you and Eddie that showed the baby.
The little wiggling baby popped up on the screen, moving all around. You smiled, relieved to see the little guy or girl was doing well. You always worried between ultrasounds that something would happen.
The two of you watched as the tech examined and measured the various body parts, making notes in your chart as she performed the exam. Then, finally, it was time.
“Okay,” she said. “Everything looks great! Do you want to know what you’re having?”
“Yes,” you and Eddie answered immediately at the same exact time. You glanced at each other, laughing lightly.
You were nervous. You weren’t sure why. You really didn’t have a preference for the baby’s sex, but this was a huge deal. This made it real, really real. The baby was about to go from “the baby” to your son or daughter. They would have a name, you would be able to shop more. This was a huge moment, and your heart thumped hard in your chest.
She moved the wand a little, looking where she needed to look. She smiled - “It’s a healthy baby girl.”
You choked out a light sob, hands moving up to cover your mouth. You couldn’t believe it. A baby girl, a daughter. Your daughter. Thoughts flashed through your mind of pink little dresses, playing dolls, dance recitals and late night dance parties. Or maybe she would be more of a tomboy, playing sports and getting dirty. You would love her no matter who she turned out to be.
Eddie stared at the screen in awe. A daughter. He was having a daughter. He couldn’t believe it. He didn’t have a preference for the gender either, but hearing it was a girl, it just felt right. Like this was the child he was meant to have, this was the perfect outcome. His body overflowed with the love he felt for this tiny person already. He nearly reached over and grabbed your hand, but thought better of it. It wasn’t his hand to hold anymore.
You left the appointment in high spirits with a stack of ultrasound photos in your hand. You kept looking them over, amazed at how much the baby looked like a baby. Just as you were about to get back in the van, you felt something move that made you gasp and nearly drop your bag.
“What??” Eddie asked, immediately by your side. “Are you okay? Is it the baby?”
You looked up at him wide eyed. “I…” You were about to say something else when you felt the movement again. You quickly grabbed Eddie’s hand and placed it on your stomach, right where you felt it.
He looked at you strangely, but kept his hand there. Then, a second later - another kick, right where Eddie’s hand lay.
“Holy shit!” He exclaimed, jerking his hand back out of instinct before putting it back. “Did she just kick?”
“I think so,” you said, an incredulous giggle in your voice.
“She’s strong,” Eddie commented with a smile. He gently rubbed his hand over the bump. “My girl. Gonna be a soccer player or something. Or just kick some serious ass.”
You laughed, your hand resting next to Eddie’s. “This has been the best day I’ve had in months.”
Eddie felt a pang of guilt at that. He knew he was the reason for your sadness, for your pain. And now here you were, giving him the greatest gift he could dream of, even if it’s one he didn’t expect. He couldn’t wait for this baby to be here.

Robin threw you a baby shower when you were 33 weeks pregnant. You were huge and uncomfortable, and still mentally a disaster. But Robin had put in so much work you were at least going to make an attempt to enjoy yourself.
She had taken you shopping for a dress, and you’d landed on a long, light pink one with a hem right beneath your breasts, the rest of the dress draped over your belly. It made you feel pretty, even if gigantic.
When you and Robin walked in, the party was already underway, your friends, family, and acquaintances mingling around, eating from the buffet table. There was a table surrounded and piled high with gifts, a rocking chair with a bow on it sitting next to it.
“Oh my god, Robs,” you said, tears springing to your eyes. “You didn’t have to do this.”
“Of course I did,” she said, nudging your arm. “You deserve it, babes. You and her both.” She placed a hand over your belly, making you smile. “You’ve been put through hell this pregnancy, the least I can do is give you a good party.”
Robin led you over to the buffet table, where Steve Harrington was standing. You furrowed your brows at your best friend as you walked, and she gave you a sheepish smile and shrug.
“He’s different now,” she said. You couldn’t believe your ears. “He’s not King Steve anymore. And he helped me out a ton with this party. He’s kind of a dingus, but he’s cool.”
Steve gave you a kind smile as you approached. “Hey,” he said once you’d both reached him, standing up straight. “Congratulations. You look beautiful.”
You blushed, because you certainly didn’t expect him to say that. “I’m huge,” you said.
Steve chuckled. “Well, you’re growing a whole human. Don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s hard work.”
You were completely shocked that Steve was being so nice to you. He had never been mean to you, but he definitely saw you and Eddie as Freaks in high school, and never gave you or Robin the time of day. He really did seem different.
“Come on,” Robin said, pulling gently on your arm. “Let’s get you and that baby something to eat. It’s gonna be a great party.”
And it was a good party. You were having a good time talking with your guests, everyone wanting to feel the baby and asking you questions. The food was good, too, you thought as you filled your third plate in 30 minutes. You were having a good time.
That is, until the door opened and two guests walked in late.
Eddie walked in, looking awkward, a gift bag in hand. He knew a good number of the people in attendance hated him, and for good reason. The fact that Eddie showed up to your party wasn’t the bad part. You were on okay terms. It was the fact that he walked in, hand in hand with Chrissy Cunningham.
Your heart stopped in your chest. You hated that you still weren’t over Eddie, but it was the truth. You felt like you would throw up at the sight.
“Oh, fuck no,” Robin muttered under her breath from next to you, before she stood tall and started walking over to them with purpose.
“Robs, wait!” You called, following after her, but Robin’s long strides were much faster than your 8 month pregnant waddle. Robin was already there when you reached the three, her finger pointed in Eddie’s face.
“And what do you think gives you the right to come marching into her party with your little girlfriend?” She was yelling, fury in her eyes like you’d never seen. “What the fuck is wrong with you??”
“Robin-“ you started, but she wasn’t even hearing you.
“You are the scum of the fucking earth,” she said to Eddie. “You don’t belong here. You don’t belong outside enjoying the day. You belong in a cave.”
Eddie was looking at her with an irritated expression on his face. Chrissy stood next to him, her big eyes wide as she held onto his arm. It made you feel so much worse.
“This is my daughter’s baby shower,” he said. “I have a right to be here.”
“No, this is her shower.” Robin gestured towards where you stood slightly behind her without even turning around. “This is for her. She has been through hell, and it’s entirely your fault. The only thing you did besides ruin her life is put the damn baby in her. Good job, Eddie!”
Eddie scoffed, rolling his eyes. “Down, guard dog, this has nothing to do with you. Get out of my face. I’m here to celebrate my daughter. Not yours.”
“And you had to bring your skank with you?”
Both you and Chrissy gasped. You had never heard her speak that way before. Eddie’s eyes darkened. “Don’t talk about her like that. She has nothing to do with this.”
“She slept with you multiple times while knowing you were in a relationship. So yeah, she’s a skank, and you’re a slut too. I guess you guys are made for each other.”
“Babe, why don’t we just go-“ Chrissy said softly.
“Babe,” Robin mocked. “How cute.”
“I’m not leaving,” Eddie said, looking from Chrissy to Robin, and finally to you. “I deserve to be here. So get over yourself.”
“I think you should leave, Eddie.”
You turned as you all looked behind you, where Steve had walked up. His expression was serious, and Eddie narrowed his eyes at him.
“This doesn’t concern you, Harrington.”
“Well, it kind of does,” he said, tilting his head to the side. “These are my friends. I helped organize the party. No one would have cared if you wanted to be here, but you had to go and bring your girlfriend to rub in her face?”
Eddie was taken aback. He couldn’t believe Steve Harrington was here and had the nerve to talk to him and his girlfriend this way. He was about to say something rude back when you spoke up.
“It’s okay,” you said, your voice timid. “They can stay.”
Steve and Robin looked at you with concern etched on both of their faces. “Are you sure?” Steve asked quietly. “Robin told me your pregnancy has been complicated. You don’t need any extra stress.”
“It’s okay,” you repeated. You weren’t entirely sure if you were really okay with it, but you didn’t want drama at your baby shower. At least, not any more drama than what had already been caused.
Steve looked at you, giving you any chance to change your mind, but you didn’t say anything else. Steve looked at Eddie and Chrissy. “She says you can stay, you can stay.”
The rest of the party was admittedly very awkward. Eddie kind of felt like shit - he knew he shouldn’t have brought Chrissy here. It was the wrong move. He thought maybe it would be alright, but the second he walked in the door he knew what a mistake it had been.
When it was time for gifts, you felt a little uncomfortable. Even as a child you had never enjoyed the whole “opening gifts in front of the whole guest list” part of parties, but you knew your older relatives would find it rude if you didn’t.
You got a lot of lovely gifts - lots of girly clothes and tiny dresses, bottles, burp cloths, a baby monitor, baby soap and towels, health stuff, toys, all kinds of things. You even got some bigger items, like a high chair, a car seat, and a stroller. You were so grateful you teared up multiple times. As a single mom, you had been worried sick about how you’d afford a lot of this stuff.
When you opened Eddie’s gift, it was just a piece of paper inside the bag. You were confused, until you took the paper out and saw the photo of the crib you had been eyeing on it, and a note that he had ordered it for you. Cue the waterworks.
Chrissy’s gift was probably the ugliest baby clothes you’d ever seen in size 24m and a toy she wouldn’t be able to play with for years. You wanted to throw the gift back in her face. She did that shit on purpose.
The rest of the party went well. You managed to avoid Chrissy, or maybe she was avoiding you. You gave each of your friends and family hugs as they left when the party was over, thanking them for coming and for their gifts.
Eddie gave you a nod as he and Chrissy left. He was always so much more pleasant when he wasn’t with her. You could always tell when she was in his ear, too, because he would start stupid arguments and stress you out. You were tired of Chrissy in your business. You never wanted to see her for the rest of your life.
But that was Eddie’s girlfriend, the girl he actually liked, and Eddie was this baby’s father. So you supposed you’d have to live with her.

At 33 weeks, days after the shower, you noticed horrible swelling in your hands and feet. More than the normal pregnancy swelling. You brought it up at your doctor’s appointment, and she was immediately concerned.
Your blood pressure was through the roof. You were diagnosed with pre eclampsia and told to head straight to the hospital to be admitted.
You cried on the way to the car. This whole pregnancy had been hell, and as excited as you were to meet the baby, you were miserable. And it wasn’t time for her to come yet. You were terrified.
You drove around the corner to the hospital’s main entrance, walking inside and giving the receptionist the paper from your doctor. They had you upstairs and set up in bed in no time, hooked up to monitors and put on strict bed rest.
The first thing you did once you were settled was grab the bedside phone. You dialed Robin’s number first, filling her in through tears. She promised to be over right after work with movies to watch, wanting to make you as comfortable as possible while you had to be in the hospital.
Next, you called Eddie.
“Hello?” He answered, a laugh in his voice, and you could hear Chrissy giggling in the background. It made you feel infinitely worse.
“Eddie. It’s me.” It was obvious in your voice that you’d been crying.
“What’s wrong?” He asked, suddenly serious. “Is it the baby? Is she coming? It’s too early!”
You sniffled. “Not yet. But I have pre eclampsia. They hospitalized me and put me on bed rest until the baby is born.”
“Shit,” Eddie hissed. “Do you, uh…do you need me?”
“Can you run by the apartment and grab my bag I packed?” You asked. “Maybe throw some extra stuff in there since I’m going to be here for a while?”
“Yeah, of course. I’ll be there as soon as I can.”
The next week in the hospital was a long one. You were bored to death, even with Robin and Steve coming by every day after work and on their days off. They would bring different movies from Family Video every day, and they had bought you a collection of board games to play together.
At 34 weeks, things took a turn for the worse.
Your water broke and labor began far too early. You were in a panic. Robin had been visiting at the time, and next thing you knew, doctors and nurses were rushing in, checking your vitals and fussing over you. The contractions started immediately, coming strong and fast.
“Call Eddie!” You called to a shocked Robin, who froze for only a few seconds before dashing for the phone.
By the time Eddie sprinted through the door, breathless and mercilessly alone, things were well underway. Labor had set in fast, and the baby’s vitals were dropping. They had to get her out as soon as possible.
“We’re going to be taking you back for a C section, okay?” The doctor told you kindly, but you could hear the seriousness of the situation in his tone. “We need to get this baby out right now.”
You had never been more terrified in your life. You could not lose this baby. You didn’t care much about your own well-being, but losing this baby would kill you.
“Can I come?” Eddie asked, his voice shaking. He was equally terrified. This baby, his daughter, meant the world to him already and she wasn’t even here yet. He needed both of you to be okay.
“Yes, you’ll just have to change into a pair of scrubs,” the doctor said. “One of the nurses will bring you some then bring you to the OR. We just need to get her in there and prepped immediately.”
Eddie watched as they wheeled you from the room quickly, disappearing down the hall with an urgency that made him sick to his stomach. Just as he’d been told, a nurse walked up with a pair of surgical scrubs and a hair cap, snapping him out of his internal panic.
He went into the bathroom and changed into the scrubs, pulling his hair up into a bun and putting the cap on. He slipped the shoe covers on last. He felt like he looked ridiculous, but he really didn’t have time to think about that right now.
Inside the operating room, you laid on a table with your arms strapped down out to the side. You also wore a cap over your hair, and a large drape curtained off everything below your chest.
“Hey,” you said, sounding nice and calm and a little out of it. “You came.”
“Of course I came,” Eddie said. He stood next to you as the doctor got to work. He did not want to think about what was going on behind that curtain.
It wasn’t long before the doctor said “Here she is!” and the next thing Eddie knew, he heard a shrill cry. It made his heart stutter in his chest, he lost his breath. Moments later one of the nurses came around with the tiniest baby Eddie had ever seen, wrapped in a hospital blanket. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. His child.
You gazed at the tiny bundle in the nurse’s arms. You were so drugged up you couldn’t really comprehend the moment, but you knew that tiny bundle was your daughter. Here at last. And alive, healthy. Pink skin and a head full of brown hair.
“Would you like to hold her?” The nurse asked as the doctor went to work on stitching you up. “We have to get her to the NICU, so only for a moment. I’m sorry.”
The NICU. Eddie didn’t want to think too hard about that. “Yes, I want to hold her.” Eddie held out his arms and the nurse gently placed the tiny baby in them.
She was so small. She felt like glass, like the most fragile thing in the world. He took in every aspect of her appearance, from her hair that matched his, to her tiny button nose, her little pink lips. Her eyes were closed, so he didn’t get to see her eye color.
He moved over to you and held the baby down for you to see. “Here she is,” he whispered to you. “Our baby girl.”
You smiled a loopy smile, but you could feel the love practically bursting out of your chest. “Hi, Lottie,” you said, tears welling in your eyes. “Charlotte Mae.”
Tumblr media
Charlotte did great, and had none of the problems common in premature babies. It was a miracle, and you were so grateful.
There was a knock at your door before it opened. Robin walked in, Steve trailing behind her. They both had smiles on their faces and held gift bags. Steve held a bouquet of beautiful flowers. He wore a yellow sweater and jeans, his long hair styled. You couldn’t help but notice how cute he was.
“Hey, mama, how are you feeling?” Robin greeted, coming over and giving you a kiss on the cheek. She looked down at the sleeping baby in your arms. “Hi, Lottie!”
“We’re doing good,” you said, a tired smile on your face. Eddie had been over earlier, but had to leave when Chrissy called the hospital phone, demanding he come home. It had made your chest ache, especially when he obeyed.
“Hey,” Steve said, moving to your other side. He held up the flowers. “I, uh, brought these for you.”
“Had the idea, picked them out, and bought them himself,” Robin said, wiggling her eyebrows.
The way Steve was looking at you did something to you, something felt deep in your chest. “Thank you,” you smiled at him. “They’re beautiful.”
“We also brought you these,” Robin said, placing both gift bags on your lap. One was purple with pink tissue paper, and the other was blue with yellow paper. “Can Auntie Robs hold her now?”
“Of course,” you replied, gently passing the tiny bundle into Robin’s waiting arms. She held the baby like a natural, gently rocking her.
You reached for the purple bag first. You pulled the paper out and found a comfy pair of pajamas for yourself, and a matching set for Charlotte. There was a card inside that read, I’m so proud of you. You’re going to be the best mom ever! Love, Auntie Robs.
You almost teared up, looking at Robin. “Thank you,” you said. “This means so much.”
“Of course,” she smiled. “Now open Steve’s!”
You laughed as you grabbed the blue bag and removed the paper. Inside you found an assortment of candy, and a small teddy bear. A card inside read Motherhood looks beautiful on you. You’re going to rock it. I’m glad we’ve become friends. Love, Steve.
“How did you know I have a sweet tooth?” You asked Steve with a laugh. You couldn’t focus on his note right now unless you really wanted to cry.
“Robin,” he laughed. “She filled me in.”
Robin and Steve visited for as long as they could, taking turns holding Charlotte and helping to take care of both her and you. You were so grateful to have such support, such amazing friends.
Tumblr media
Custody was a whole other ordeal. You and Eddie had agreed that he would get Charlotte every other weekend, starting when she was 5 months old and could take a bottle when she was with Eddie since you were breastfeeding.
It worked out, Eddie didn’t argue with you much unless Chrissy started convincing him to, as she sometimes did. He started missing his scheduled weekends, claiming plans with Chrissy. The thing is that Chrissy knew what weekends Eddie had Charlotte, and she would do this on purpose. And he just let her.
It made you so mad. Lottie deserved better than this. She deserved a father who was excited to see her any chance he got. You began to resent Eddie more and more.
It was Saturday night, and Eddie had bailed for the weekend again. He was taking Chrissy to Indianapolis to spend the weekend and go shopping. Honestly, you were in the mood for a good cry.
Not only was Eddie bailing on his visitation, but he was also pushing for more. You didn’t understand it, but you knew who was behind it. Chrissy just liked stirring up shit between you and Eddie. You were convinced she got a kick out of it.
You figured the best way to get a good cry was to go rent a sappy movie. You were sure a good romance would have you sobbing within the hour. You packed Lottie’s diaper bag, strapped her in her car seat, and drove to Family Video.
You smiled when you saw Steve behind the counter through the glass doors. He was on the phone as you walked in, but he gave you a big smile and held up a finger to tell you to hold on a second. You started browsing the movies, seeing what was available.
Steve got off the phone as quickly as possible, rushing over to your side. “Hey, Lottie,” he greeted the baby on your hip, making her giggle and reach for him. You handed her off as Steve happily took her. “So, what brings you in today? Not that I’m not excited to see you.”
You couldn’t help but smile at Steve. “Rough weekend. I need a good cry.”
He frowned. “Why?”
You sighed. “Just Eddie and Chrissy stuff. The usual.”
Steve nodded in understanding, but it pissed him off. He hated the hell Eddie and his girlfriend put you through on a constant basis. He wished he could make it better. “So you need a sad movie?”
“Yeah. Any recommendations?”
He thought for a minute. He browsed the shelves as Lottie played with his name tag. “Hmm…oh!” He reached forward and plucked a VHS off the shelf. “This one will get you for sure.”
You took it from his hands. “Steel Magnolias. I haven’t seen it.”
“Oh, it’ll definitely make you cry,” Steve laughed as you examined the tape, reading the back synopsis.
“Do you know that because it made you cry?” You teased, a playful smile on your lips as you looked at him again.
Steve blushed bright red. “Maybe.”
You laughed, poking him in the side. “Who knew you were such a sap, Steve Harrington.”
“Hey,” he said, holding up his free hand in surrender. “Chicks dig a guy who’s in tune with his emotions.”
“Is that so?”
“It is so,” Steve confirmed with a grin. You could never wipe the smile off your face when Steve was around. He was just so fun, and kind, and funny. He was a great friend, and cute, too, if you let yourself admit it.
You exchanged the tape for Lottie then followed Steve back to the counter where he checked you out. “Just one movie tonight?”
“Yeah. I pass out too early now to watch more than one.”
Steve chuckled as he scanned the tape and pulled up your account. He clicked on his computer for a few seconds before a receipt began to print. “Alright, you’re all set.”
“Thanks,” you smiled as you took the tape and receipt from him. “I’ll see you around, Steve!” You turned and began walking to the front door, ready to get home, get Lottie comfy in bed, then watch your movie.
“Hey,” Steve said, stopping you. You turned around, confused.
“What’s up?”
“Um…” Steve cleared his throat. “Would you…want to go out sometime?” His voice was nervous, like you’d never heard it before.
His words caught you off guard. You raised your eyebrows, switching the baby to the other arm. “What?”
“Go out? Like, on a date?”
You blinked at him. “You want to go on a date…with me?”
“Yeah,” he smiled nervously at you. “I’ve…been wanting to ask you out for a while. But you just had so much going on, I didn’t want to add more stress to your plate…”
“Steve, you could never do anything but make my life better. I love spending time with you.”
He beamed at that. “Yeah? Well…would you want to go on a date with me?”
“Sure,” you smiled. “I would love that.”
Tumblr media
You finished packing up Charlotte’s bag, making sure it was stocked with plenty of clothes and her favorite toys, including the teddy bear Steve had given her, which was her absolute favorite. Eddie had plenty of diapers and wipes at his house so you didn’t have to worry about that.
You had your date with Steve tonight. He was going to be picking you up shortly after Lottie left, so you had already gotten ready. You wore a short little dress that you’d been waiting for an excuse to wear forever, your hair hung perfectly, and you had done some light makeup. You hadn’t dressed up like this and gone on a date in…ever.
There was a knock at the door right on time. “There’s daddy!” You told Charlotte, who smiled big and clapped her little hands together. You scooped her up and headed for the front door, opening it to reveal Eddie.
Eddie smiled at Charlotte, but immediately took notice of your look. “Where are you going all dolled up? Got a hot date?” He asked, a sneer in his voice.
Your smile dropped. So he was going to be like this today. “Yeah. I do, actually.”
Eddie didn’t like that. The thought of it struck an unusual and unwelcome jealousy into his chest. “With who?”
“That’s none of your business,” you said. You handed over Charlotte’s bag. “I can do whatever I want. You cheated on me, remember?”
He didn’t acknowledge your second comment. “It is my business if you’re bringing my daughter around some guy.”
You stared him down. “Well, you bring your mistress around our daughter, so I don’t think you have the right to say anything.”
Eddie’s eyes darkened. “Chrissy is my girlfriend.”
“Sure.” You turned to Charlotte, smiling at her. “I’ll see you Sunday, baby girl. I love you so much.” You gave her a lingering kiss on the cheek before handing her off to Eddie. “I’ll see you Sunday.”
Eddie left, and you sighed. You took some deep breaths, trying to calm yourself. You would not let Eddie ruin this night. This was your first time being asked on a date, and you were going to have a good time.
It was about 15 minutes later that Steve picked you up. He looked handsome, wearing a button up shirt and jeans. He held a beautiful bouquet of flowers that he handed you as you opened the door.
“You look gorgeous,” he said, and you could tell from his voice that he truly meant it. You blushed deeply as you took the flowers.
“Thank you,” you smiled. Steve followed you into the apartment, stepping over toys as you walked into the kitchen. You grabbed a vase and filled it with water, placing the flowers inside.
“Where are we going?” You asked as you walked with Steve to his car. He held the passenger side door open for you, and you smiled at him as you slid in. He was such a gentleman.
“I was thinking, dinner and a movie is too lame, too cliche. We watch movies all the time. So,” he gestured into the backseat, “I packed us a picnic, and got us tickets to see David Bowie in the city tonight.”
You stared at him, blinking. “I…no you didn’t.”
Steve laughed. “Yeah, I did. I know you’re a big fan, and he was performing nearby, so…”
“Oh my god!” Your heart was beating out of your chest, you felt like it would explode. “Steve. Oh my god.”
Steve was very proud of himself for this one. He knew you’d freak out, but your reaction was even better than he hoped. “That’s why I asked you out tonight specifically. I, uh…already had the tickets.”
You quickly swiped a falling tear off your cheek before it could mess up your makeup. “Steve Harrington, I think I’m in love with you.”
That made Steve’s heart swell. Because he felt the same way about you.
Steve drove the two of you to the park, where you found a spot next to a large tree. He laid out the blanket and sat down the picnic basket he’d packed full of all kinds of foods. You ate together, laughing and joking and having the best time. But you couldn’t shake the buzzing excitement in your belly from the news of the concert.
It was a couple hour’s drive to the city, but it was worth it. The show was incredible, everything you dreamed seeing David Bowie would be. Steve held your hand, which sent electricity through both of your bodies.
When Steve brought you home, he walked you to your apartment door. Butterflies were flying in your stomach, still ecstatic from the most incredible date you ever could have imagined.
“I had a great time,” Steve said.
“Me too,” you agreed. “Truly. Do you…want to come in? The night doesn’t have to be over yet.”
A smile spread across Steve’s lips. “Yeah. I’d like that.”
Steve followed you in. As you turned to him, you saw something behind his eyes. Like he was thinking, considering something. He lifted a hand and caressed the side of your face with the back of his hand, thinking he had never seen someone as beautiful in his life. “Can I kiss you?”
Your breath hitched in your throat. “I…yes.”
Steve smiled lightly. Then he was leaning in, closer and closer, until his lips pressed to yours.
Sparks flew. You kissed him back eagerly, and he wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling your body flush to his own. The kiss turned heated, Steve pressing your back up against the wall as he kissed you passionately. His hands began sliding up the skirt of your dress.
“Steve,” you said, breathless against his lips. “Take me to my room.”
Tumblr media
The next morning, you woke up next to Steve. He had his arm around your waist, cuddling you close. You were both naked. As you awoke, Steve did, too, pulling you closer to him and nuzzling his face into your neck. “Don’t go,” he mumbled.
“I’m not,” you giggled. “I’m not going anywhere.”
Steve asked you to be his girlfriend that morning. It may have been a little soon, but you happily said yes. You knew Steve well, he was one of your best friends. You knew you wanted to be with him.
Robin was ecstatic when you told her the news. “About time!” She exclaimed, throwing her arms up. “Took you long enough, dingus.”
You knew you had to tell Eddie. As much as you dreaded it, he deserved to know as the father of your daughter. You waited a couple of weeks into the relationship, wanting to be sure things were going to work out before you brought it up. But your relationship with Steve was incredible, a kind of joy you never thought you could experience in a relationship.
Eddie came to the door to drop off Charlotte one Sunday evening. He was a little early, and Steve was over.
“Shit,” you hissed as he knocked at the door. “I guess it’s now or never.”
You answered the door, loving how Lottie’s face lit up at the sight of you. “Hi baby!”
“Mama!” She called, reaching for you. You took her from Eddie’s arms, sitting her on your hip. “Dada!” She exclaimed next, only she wasn’t looking at Eddie.
Steve had come up behind you, and Lottie was pointing at him. Your mouth dropped as Eddie’s face turned to one of pure anger. “What the fuck?” He said.
“I swear, I don’t know what that’s about. She’s never called him that before,” you explained quickly. Honestly Eddie deserved to have his feelings hurt, but you knew how destroyed you would be if Lottie called Chrissy Mama.
“What is he doing here anyway?” Eddie asked, gesturing towards Steve. “I don’t see Robin here. Do you have a life of your own, Harrington?”
You looked between Steve and Eddie. “Ed…me and Steve are…together.”
The words hit Eddie like a punch to the gut. He figured you would date eventually, but maybe he just got spoiled by you being single. He didn’t expect the pain of finding out you had moved on. And with Harrington? “What?”
You pursed your lips, knowing this had the potential to go badly. “We’re together. Steve is my boyfriend.”
Eddie just stared between the two of you. Then, he laughed, a sinister sounding chuckle. He knew he had no right to be pissed, but he was pissed. “Well, isn’t that just great.”
“Eddie-“
“No,” he said, holding a hand up. “You don’t owe me an explanation. You do whatever you want. Enjoy your life with Steve.”
And with that, he left. He didn’t even tell Charlotte goodbye.
Tumblr media
Things with Steve were incredible. He was the best boyfriend you could ask for, and he was amazing with Lottie. She loved playing with him, and he could sit on the floor and play with her for hours without getting bored.
You had been together for a year and a half when he surprised you with a trip to the beach. You spent the weekend laying out in the sun, playing in the ocean, making love until the early morning in your suite.
On the last day there, you were walking down the beach hand in hand. As you were looking down at the sand for seashells, you noticed some writing in the sand. You let go of Steve’s hand to walk over and read it.
Will you marry me?
“Steve!” You exclaimed. “Look, someone proposed! How cute-“
You froze when you turned around to see Steve on one knee, holding a beautiful ring in a black velvet box. You gasped, tears immediately falling. You always were emotional.
“Will you make me the luckiest guy in the world and marry me?”
Tumblr media
Eddie came home a little early from work one evening, and immediately knew something was wrong. He could feel it in the atmosphere before he even heard the noises. Those unmistakable noises.
He crept down the hallway, careful not to make any noise. Not that he thought he’d be noticed, anyway. Not with what he deeply suspected was going on.
He made it to the bedroom he shared with Chrissy. The door was slightly ajar, and he took a deep breath before pushing it open all the way.
Chrissy and her ex, Jason Carver, were in his bed, absolutely going at it. Eddie knew this was what was going on from the moment he walked into the apartment, but seeing it, he still felt like he’d be sick. Chrissy turned at the sound of the door opening and screamed, covering herself and Jason, who didn’t really seem to give a fuck at all.
After Jason left and Eddie was left alone with his girlfriend, he demanded the truth. She admitted she had been sleeping with Jason again for months.
Naturally, Eddie kicked her out. Then, he was alone.
Alone with only his thoughts, he had too much quiet time to think. And what he found himself thinking about was you. Far too often. He thought about your relationship, how he fucked everything up, including your lifelong friendship. Sure, he got his beautiful daughter out of it, but he could have treated you better. He should have treated you better.
He also thought about the way you’d treated him. The way you had loved him. How you were the only woman who had ever loved him, besides his mom all those years ago. How he had taken you for granted. He thought about how he would feel if some asshole treated Lottie the way he treated you. The thought itself made him furious.
Because now that Chrissy was gone and he was no longer blinded by his lifelong crush, he was realizing something:
Eddie loved you.
Not just as the mother of his child, or as a platonic friend, but love love. The kind he had been too blind to see back in high school, back during the days of your relationship.
He hated himself now. He had fucked up more than was even fathomable. He had thrown you away, for Chrissy. You were so much better than Chrissy in every way. Prettier, smarter, funnier, kinder. And you had treated him well.
Eddie dwelled on it for months. He grabbed his mail from the mailbox as he headed into his trailer one day, flipping through the various bills and junk mail - until he stopped at one with your name on it.
He dropped the other pieces of mail in his rush to open that one. He nearly ripped it in half getting it open, and as he pulled out the card inside, his blood ran cold.
You are cordially invited to the wedding of Mr. and Mrs Harrington.
It was too late.

DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing- Dj!Portgas d. Ace x fem!reader
MODERN AU word count - 5.1k genre - MINORS DO NOT INTERACT. smut , explicit sexual content, mild sex, oral sex (fem receiving), fingering, nipple/breast play, drugs mentioned once. synopsis- October's Halloween party interaction with the masked DJ got you crushing, that would make you go to his parties a lil too often just so you could see him, but this time it ended differently. note- this is my first time writing a one shot to begin with, let alone my first time writing smut. This has been a thought of mine since 2021 at least, fully based on Usher ft.Pitbull- DJ got us fallin' in love. I hope my Ace girlies enjoy it. Suggested music: Usher ft. PItbull- DJ got us fallin' in love (ofc); Akcent- My passion; The Weeknd- Sao Paulo + your favourite party songs
So we back in the club
With our bodies rockin' from side to side
The bass thumped through the crowded club, the beat vibrating in your chest as you weaved through the sea of dancing bodies. The neon lights flickered in time with the music, painting the room in flashes of electric blue and hot pink. You weren’t here to dance, though. Not really.
You were here for him.
“Really? Front row again?” your best friend, Nami teased as you both squeezed through the crowd. “You didn’t come for the music yet again, did you?” You rolled your eyes and snickered.
“What? I just like being close to the action.” you joked, but you could feel Nami’s look on you. That devilish smile she always had on, when she was ready to let out her significant snarky comments. “Sure,” she snorted, nudging you playfully “Close to him, you mean.”
“Shut up!” you hissed unable to cover your smile, feeling your cheeks heat up. You finally reached your reserved spot near the front after what felt like forever. Your friend let out an exaggerated sigh. “All this effort for a view of your future boyfriend, huh?” Nami teased.
You swatted at her playfully, but your heart raced as you looked up at Ace. The spot gave you a perfect view of him, perched above the crowd on an elevated platform was the DJ, lost in his world of sound. His fingers danced over the mixer, effortlessly blending tracks and controlling the energy of the room. His compression shirt tight on him, highlighting his defined muscles. Headphones on his head, not holding back his messy wavy hair that bounced with every nod of his head, and the most interesting detail of him, the sleek black mask that covered the lower half of his face.
“Totally worth it,” you whispered, feeling butterflies in your stomach.
“Please,” Nami laughed. “The only reason we keep coming to these parties is so you can drool over him. But I won’t complain because he makes such a great atmosphere, I’ll admit it. How long are even gonna continue to do so until you find a way to talk to him?”
You laughed softly, shaking your head. “I don't even know what I'd say.” Nami raised an eyebrow. “How about ‘Hi, I’ve been shamelessly staring at you for weeks now, want to grab coffee?’” You giggled. “Very subtle.”
“Hey, subtle isn’t getting you anywhere,” Nami teased. “Next time, I might just walk up to him and tell him for you.” you just give her a stern look and you both break into a laugh.
Thank God the week is done
I feel like a zombie gone back to life
Back, back to life
As the crowd pulsed with energy, Ace stood behind the decks, completely in his element.  With every nod of his head and wave of his hand, the crowd responded, lost in his music. His energy was electric, each movement commanding attention, and even from afar, you couldn’t tear your eyes away from him. For that moment, it felt like the entire room moved to his heartbeat—and so did you.
Turning over at Nami, you notice her staring at you while sipping on her tequila. "What?" You ask her confused.
"Quit glazing. Let’s go out there and have some fun!" Nami grinned, pointing toward the dance floor. "Come on. I’m not letting you just watch all night." You hesitated still not processing her words, but Nami wasn’t having any of it. Without another word, she grabbed your hand and tugged you toward the crowd.
Tumblr media
It had been back in October, at that unforgettable Halloween party, when you first saw him—Ace, the DJ who would unknowingly capture your attention from that moment on.
The night had been buzzing with energy, the crisp autumn air clashing with the warmth of too many bodies crammed into the decorated party venue. Fake cobwebs hung from the ceiling, and carved pumpkins flickered with eerie candlelight in the corners. You remembered wandering through the crowd, your ghostface costume slightly askew from weaving through so many people.
Then you heard it—the perfect blend of beats, a smooth transition from one song to the next that pulled you in without you even realizing it. Your eyes were drawn to the DJ booth, perched slightly above the dance floor. And there he was.
Ace stood behind the turntables, completely in his element, effortlessly mixing tracks as if he’d been born to do it. But what caught your attention more than his skill was the mask he wore—a Jason Voorhees hockey mask, cracked and worn, making him look straight out of Friday the 13th. It was both terrifying and intriguing, and you couldn’t look away.
You remembered standing there for what felt like forever, the music vibrating through your chest as you watched him. His head nodded in time with the beat, and every so often, he’d raise his hand, hyping up the crowd without ever saying a word. The anonymity of the mask somehow made him even more captivating. Who was he behind it?
When he finally glanced up from his set, his dark eyes locking with yours through the eye holes of the mask, your breath caught in your throat. It was only for a second, but it stayed with you. The flickering lights, the pulse of the music, and those intense eyes behind a killer’s mask—it was a moment burned into your memory.
After a while, as the party was slowly dying down, and you were weaving through the maze of people heading for the exit, your head slightly fuzzy from the night’s excitement. You weren’t paying much attention, too caught up in your own thoughts, when suddenly, you collided into something—or someone—solid.
Before you could even react, a strong hand gripped your wrist, and another pressed lightly against your waist, steadying you before you could stumble backward. Your breath hitched as you looked up, heart pounding in your chest, only to be met by the blank, chilling stare of a Jason Voorhees mask.
It was him. The DJ.
“Careful there.”
Your mind raced as you tried to process what just happened. His hand was still firm on your wrist, keeping you steady, and you could feel the heat of his touch through the thin fabric of your costume.
“S-Sorry,” you stammered, completely thrown off. His other hand lingered on your waist for a moment longer before letting go, but the sensation stayed with you.
“Nice costume ghostie,” he said, a hint of a smirk in his tone. “Looked good on you.”
The ghostface mask on top of your head. He had noticed it. Before you could even process the unexpected compliment, he straightened up and disappeared into the crowd without another word, leaving you standing there, stunned, with your heart racing faster than the beat of any song that night
Tumblr media
The music pulsed through the room, and you and Nami were completely lost in the moment, dancing like no one was watching. The crowd around you swayed and moved, the bass vibrating through the floor beneath your feet. Nami laughed, spinning you playfully before throwing her hands up in the air, her energy contagious.
Hands up, uh
Yeah, suddenly we all got our hands up, uh
No control of my body
But even as you danced, a familiar pull tugged at your attention.
Your eyes flicked toward the DJ booth—toward him. Couldn’t help but stare at him. It was something about him that catches your attention again and again.
“Joe Goldberg , pretty much?” Nami teases, her tone playful. You laughed, shaking your head, but as the two of you danced and lost yourselves in the music again, your gaze still found its way back to Ace. And maybe, just maybe, you caught him glancing your way too.
As the song shifted into another upbeat track, you felt the heat of the crowded dance floor catching up to you. Your breath came a little quicker, and you could feel a light sheen of sweat on your skin from all the dancing.
You leaned in close to Nami, raising your voice over the music. “I need a drink!” Nami grinned, her eyes sparkling under the colorful lights. “Same! Let’s go.”
She grabbed your hand, leading you through the throng of people as you both weaved your way toward the bar. Even as you moved through the crowd, you couldn’t help but sneak one last glance at the DJ booth. Ace was still there, completely focused on his set, but for a fleeting moment, you wondered if he noticed you leaving the dance floor.
Keep downing drinks like there's no tomorrow
There's just right now
You and Nami finally reached the bar, leaning against the counter as you tried to catch your breath. The cool air away from the crowded dance floor was a relief, and you sighed, running a hand through your hair.
“What are you having?” Nami asked, still grinning from all the dancing. “Something cold. Surprise me,” you replied, still feeling the beat of the music thrumming in your chest. While Nami flagged down the bartender, your eyes instinctively flicked back to the DJ booth. Ace was still there, effortlessly switching tracks, his fingers gliding over the mixer with precision. His expression was focused, like he knew exactly how much control he had over the room with his music.
You let out a quiet breath, shaking your head at yourself. Get it together, you thought.
“Still looking, huh?” Nami teased, nudging you playfully with her elbow as she handed you a drink. “You’ve got it bad. Suit yourself. But if you keep looking at him like that, he’s bound to notice.”
You took a sip of your drink, hoping the cold liquid would calm the fluttering in your chest. But even as you stood there, trying to play it cool, you felt that familiar pull—the one that kept drawing your gaze back to him. And when your eyes flicked up to the DJ booth again, you froze.
Because this time, Ace was already looking at you.
And he didn’t look away.
Nami noticed immediately, of course. She raised an eyebrow, leaning in closer with a mischievous grin. “Ohhh, he definitely caught you staring.” You rolled your eyes, trying to play it off. “So what?” you said, shrugging. “I don’t care if he notices or not. I’ve made up my min-”
“Finally. It was about time, but be careful because you never know who will approach who first” she cuts me off. “Yeah…right…but chill out first.” you answer back nervously taking a sip off your drink again.
As you leaned against the bar, sipping your drink, your mind refused to stay quiet. No matter how much you tried to focus on the music, the crowd, or even Nami’s playful teasing, your thoughts kept drifting back to him.
Did he really notice me? Or was it just a coincidence? you wondered, biting your bottom lip absentmindedly. And why does it even matter? It’s not like I came here for this, you try to lie to yourself.
You shook your head at yourself, frustrated. You barely knew him, and yet, the memory of that Halloween night still clung to you like a shadow. The way he had steadied you with such ease, the slight compliment he had left hanging in the air as he walked away—it had stuck with you longer than you wanted to admit.
Get it together, you thought. It’s just a crush. Just a moment. Nothing more.
But even as you tried to convince yourself, your mind betrayed you. Every time the bass dropped or the rhythm shifted flawlessly, you thought of him. Every glance toward the DJ booth made your pulse quicken, wondering if he’d look back again, which unfortunately he always did. Every single time he did.
'Cause baby, tonight
The DJ got us falling in love again
---
After what felt like forever the party was dying down and may people had already left. Nami had gone off with some blond guy, who happened to be her co-worker.  Now you found yourself standing alone in your reserved space, the energy from the dance floor a distant hum compared to the whirlwind of thoughts in your head.
The alcohol had started to wear you down, leaving you more tired than tipsy, so you swapped your drink for something lighter—a soda lemon—the cool fizz a relief as it hit your tongue.
You leaned against the small table, the condensation from your glass dripping onto your fingers as you absentmindedly traced patterns on the surface. The party around you carried on, people laughing, dancing, and living in the moment, but you felt like you were somewhere in between—still present, yet lost in your own mind.
The thumping bass vibrated through your chest, but you felt distant, the high from the night’s excitement starting to fade into something quieter. Your body was tired from dancing, and the weight of everything—the memories, the glances, the what-ifs—was settling in.
Meanwhile Ace was still there, focused on his set, and even though you were tucked away in your little corner, you couldn’t help but wonder if he noticed you were gone from the dance floor. Not that it matters, you reminded yourself for what felt like the hundredth time tonight.
But still, you lingered.
“Yo,” he drawled, his tone casual but laced with amusement. “Looks like the dance floor wore some of y’all out already.”
A soft chuckle rippled through the crowd, but you barely noticed—because something about the way he said it made your breath catch.
Then, with a slight pause, he added, almost too casually, “Or maybe... some of you were too busy stealing glances to keep me up.”
Your eyes shot up to the DJ booth, heart pounding. Ace stood there, one hand on the mixer, the other holding the mic close to his lips. His gaze lingered on you.
“Hate to break it to you, but it’s about that time.” A collective groan echoed from the crowd, but Ace just chuckled softly into the mic.
“I know, I know,” he teased. “Wish we could go all night too. But let’s wrap this up the right way.” The beat dropped one last time, a perfect blend of energy and finality. The crowd surged with renewed excitement, determined to make the most of the last few moments.
You, however, stood frozen in your little corner, the reality settling in. The night was ending, and with it, the lingering anticipation that had been crackling in the air between you and Ace. As he worked through his final mix, Ace’s voice came through one more time, low and playful.
“Hope y’all had fun tonight... some of you more than others.” you found him already looking your way. That little motherfu-
The crowd had thinned out, the music fading into a soft hum as the night finally came to an end. People gathered their things, laughing and chatting as they headed for the exit. You exhaled softly, still feeling the remnants of the night’s energy buzzing through you. The memory of Ace’s teasing words lingered in your mind, refusing to let go.
Lost in thought, you didn’t notice the figure approaching until a voice, smooth and unmistakable, pulled you back to reality.
“Leaving already, ghostie?” You blinked, turning—and there he was.
Ace stood in front of you, close enough for you to catch the faint scent of cologne and a hint of something smoky. His dark hair was a little messier now, a few strands falling over his forehead and finally without a mask on, a signature smirk played on his lips like he knew exactly what effect he had on you. He had remembered you.
“Didn’t think you’d notice, either remember…” you teased, trying to match his energy. Ace chuckled softly, his eyes locking onto yours.
Swear I've seen you before
I think I remember those eyes
“Hard not to,” he replied smoothly. “You’ve been catching my eye few nights now.”
Your pulse quickened, and you couldn’t help the small smile tugging at your lips. “Guess the feeling’s mutual.”
He tilted his head slightly, amused. “Yeah,” he murmured, his voice low and deliberate. “I figured.”
---
You don’t remember where along the lines of sharing a drink and a joint with Ace and hopping on his motorcycle, you ended up at your door making out with him. The heat between you intensified as his hands gently cupped your face, pulling you closer, while yours found their way to his chest, fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt.
Every movement felt electric, a mix of urgency and tenderness as you both lost yourselves in the moment. His lips were rough against yours, yet a slow, teasing rhythm that made your heart race. There was something about the way he kissed you—like he was savoring every second of it, as if he wanted to remember it forever, his hand roaming all over your body.
“Find that goddamn key” he says and leans to kiss you again. He tilted his head slightly to allow himself access to deepen the kiss. His tongue ran along your bottom lip in a silent request for entrance. Ace slowly pulled away just enough to look at you. A smirk crept onto his face while keeping his hold firm on your waist, not allowing you to move away. His pupils dilated at the sight of your flustered expression.
You immediately look away and search for the keys in your bag. After finding them you quickly open the door. With a swift motion, Ace lifted you into his arms in a bridal style and carried you inside, then he shut the door behind him with a kick. As soon as the door closed his lips were back on yours in a rough, heated kiss. His tongue immediately demanded access to your mouth. Hands holding onto your waist firmly and slowly walking you backwards until your back is pressed against the wall.
His body pressed against yours, pinning you between himself and the wall while his hands traced along the sides of your body, leaving a trail of heated kisses along your jaw. Ace continued his ministrations, his lips trailing down to your neck, biting and sucking on the sensitive area to leave a mark. One of his hands slowly crept up to intertwine with one of yours while the other began to wander lower to your hip.
“The bedroom is that way” you mention towards its door.
Ace chuckled against your neck, the sound being muffled as he continued placing kisses over your skin, "As you wish~" He replied before suddenly hauling you up and throwing you over his shoulder. One of his hands gently spanked your buttcheek as he began walking towards the bedroom.
He walks over to the bed before suddenly dropping you down on it with a soft thump. His body was between your legs, the sudden action placing him over you as he hovers his own above you. He looked down at you a cocky smirk on his lips.
"Look at ya … All flustered for me.” He leaned down to nuzzle your neck once again, peppering it with kisses as he spoke. "I could get used to this view…” He moved off you and took off his shirt. His board shoulders, defined biceps and abs at your display. You couldn’t help but stare and touch, your hands now roaming on his body, feeing every muscle of his.
What took you off was the tattoo in his left arm. It was just his name in a colon, with a crossed “S”, which got you wondering who the mysterious “S” could be.
“You like it?” he asks with a smug grin on his face.
“Luv it. What’s the ‘S’ for?” you answer looking directly into his eyes. He chuckles for a moment and turns his head tom the side before facing you again. “This would be the worst moment for me to start talking about my brothers..” he says and you were still staring at him a little confused.
Before I could even ask him further more Ace leaned back down on you  and started pulling your clothes off, his hands slowly move to the buttons on your shirt, slowly unbuttoning them one by one in a tantalizing pace like he was unwrapping a present. Ace's gaze was focused on your body as he revealed it to his eyes, tracing the curves with his eyes before his lips began to follow suit. Soft, gentle kisses were peppered across every piece of newly exposed skin. He took his time taking off your top and most importantly, unclasping your bra.
Put your hands on my body
His lips kissing all over the valley of your breasts while one arm wraps around your body and he pops the bra open with one hand. His other hand immediately pulling the bra off so now your chest is exposed for his eyes. He leans to take a nipple in his mouth, licking at it and giving it little bites while his other hand plays with your other breast. You couldn’t help but moan at the feeling oh him playing with your breasts and nipples, giving both of them the same affection.
‘’Squishy” he mumbles with a tiddie in his mouth, which made you giggle a little.
Then his hands roamed across your body with a certain confidence and familiarity while he slowly made his way down lower and lower, taking off your bottoms.
Leaving you on your panties only, Ace drops to his knees, hands drawing you towards his awaiting mouth. You watch the way his eyes are fixated  on your core. “Nice panties,” he pulls at the flimsy material “looks like someone planned on getting laid tonight.” Ace teases as he keeps nipping at your inner thigh, your thighs placed on his board shoulders.
“Yeah, and exactly with you” you spat back with a confidence that got washed off you as soon as he slipped your panties to the side.
“So wet” he smirks, his thumb coming in contact with your clit as he spreads your slick around. His other hand pushes your thighs to open more to give him more space, but his shoulder are too damn large-
You hold your breath when Ace moves closer, tongue taking its hirst taste lick that made your toes curl. Ace doesn’t say anything, he simply licks his lips and dives into you. His tongue parts your folds, dipping inside to taste your walls while your legs shake around his head. “Fuck, Ace-”
You reach down to grab his hair, applying enough pressure to his head to let him know you’re enjoying what he’s doing… if he can’t already tell from your desperately needy moans. His lips move to suction on your clit and a squeal escapes you, your back arching slightly at the sensation.
you’re also probably sensitive because this is Ace, because there’s been a build-up that’s left you ready to pop, and he seems intent on making you pop multiple times for him.
“Oh my God,” you whimper, eyes closed, abdominal muscles tensing with effort as his skilled tongue works you up. Ace groans against your pussy and it’s one of the sexiest things that’s ever happened to you. Your grip on his hair tightens, your core throbbing with pleasure already. When he adds two fingers into your dripping hole, you know you’re not going to last, but you don’t think he wants you to. His finger were so skiller, no wonder he is a DJ after all.
“Fuck, Ace-” You want to tell him how close you are to your release, but you can hardly get the words out between your moans. “I’m- holy shit-” Ace finger fucks you even harder, his mouth focusing on your clit, and you’re pretty sure he’s understood your garbled attempt to warn him, pretty sure he wants you to cum.
“Release for me Y/N. Don’t hold back. I want to taste all of you” he says and dives back into you, his mouth fully on you. You allow yourself to find your release, your back arching again as you tug on Ace’s hair, keeping his face between your legs. You grind down slightly, your body chasing your orgasm as it surges through you like fire in your veins.
“Condoms,” he says, pulling his fingers out of your core and standing up. Ace reaches for his discarded jeans that were laying on the floor, grabs them and pulls out two condoms from his back pocket.
“And I was the one getting teased for planning this..” you tease him, you legs rubbing against each other to create a little friction as the view in front of you was so tempting. Ace was now  naked, this boner fully hard, his abs looking delicious as he was ripping open the condom plastic wrap with his teeth. Could have asked him to go raw just for the show he was giving you, but you decided to zip it this time.
“You’re okay with this, right pretty?” he asks, needing reassurance from you one last time, and you nod eagerly. He just chuckles at your reaction
He leans down to hover over you once again, your legs wrapping around his waist. One of his hands is around the side of your neck, forcing your face upwards as he captures your lips into a slow but yearning kiss. His other hand his lining himself against your core, teasing you buy rubbing the tip of his cock up and down your slit. Whimpering from the feelings, his mouth swallowed every single one of your noises. After teasing for what felt like forever, he finally pushes himself in.
“So tight-“ he groans from the feeling, while pushing his cock fully into your hole. He felt so big, making you feel full. It took you a little to get used to him. “No one has fucked this pussy in so long, right baby..” such a talkative teasing man, but two can play this game.
“Been waiting for someone to fill it good” you say, which caught him off guard but it was enough to make him go. He started properly thrusting into you, his moves not so fast, but pounding, and hitting all the right places. It felt so good that it made you want to turn your head backward but Ace’s hand that was holding your head firm stopped you from doing so.
“Feeling yourself already Y/N?’’ he whispers , nibbling on your ear. This felt too intimate. Ace’s lips lingering from your skin behind your ear to your neck, giving it little bites that will most likely leave hickeys tomorrow, but you’re not complaining.
‘’It feels so good-  fuck” out moan out to the feeling on his thrusts. The way your walls sucked him in drove the two of you crazy. You felt the way his vein pulsed within you that it made you clench down onto him. Ace swore under his breath at the tight feeling you were creating around his pulsing length. “Fuck — keep clenching me like that angel and I'm not gonna last long for you.” Ace said as he held onto your hips tightly.
Incoherent words fall from your lips as you savored the delicious feeling of Ace’s cock gliding in and out of your sopping entrance. Ace traced his free hand up from its place on your hips and brought it to the front of your chest. Ace takes one of your breasts and places it into his hand, giving it a squeeze causing the two of you to moan. Ace takes one of your hardened nipples between his fingertips and pinches it.
Moan, after moan leaves your lips as the sensations he is giving you. Behind the noise of your moans, you could hear the sound of skin slapping against one another and the squelching sounds coming out from your entrance. “Look at me as I fuck this pretty pussy of your angel.” He speaks roughly as he continues to plough into you. “Look at how. You. Take. It.” Ace emphasizes with each hard thrust into you.  You were so fucking
close, and his cocky attitude wasn’t making it better. He turned you on so much. Ace snaked his hand away from your breast and down to your front. His fingertips started to press down onto your clit and moving them side to side, causing you to moan out loudly.
The repetitive sensation of Ace hitting your spot within your walls makes you see double the stars than before. “I’m gon—” Without warning you started to come around Ace’s length. You felt your body shiver at how intense the orgasm was. Your legs started to shake as you started to feel the overstimulation take its course considering that he had already made you cum once.
“That’s my good girl” he groans, feeling you clenching around him. “Come for me again baby” he says and captures your lips into an eager kiss. After a few more thrusts, strings of curses left Ace’s lips as his stomach clenched and thighs shake slightly as he let go inside of the condom completely.
As the two of you rode out your highs together, the weight of the situation between the two of you started to settle within the two of you. As Ace pulled himself out, cleaning you and throwing the used condom in the bin in the process, a deathifying silence fell. He fell lip next to you, and leaned on your arm to keep looking at you. You weren’t sure how to approach the topic. Do you say this was a one-time thing or are you guys actually together now?
Noticing the way that  you were staring at him, he kind of figured out what you were thinking. He started laughing which made you feel uncomfortable at this point.
“What’s so funny?” you ask with a stern look on your face.
“Stop overthinking this. Instead fall asleep as I’m taking you out when you will wake up tomorrow.” He says and wraps his arms around you and pulls you against him, your back on his chest as he snuggles into your neck.
“Good. You got me worried for a second” you giggle “Good night deejay”. It was worthless waiting for his answer as he was already asleep. Kind of suspicious how fast he fell asleep so quicky but not much of a big deal at the moment, as sleep took you also.
'Cause baby, tonight

Steddie; 1925 words; friends to lovers; belated valentine's day.
Eddie paced into his room and then back out into the hallway. Turned. Paced back into his room. Cracked the knuckles on his right hand. Turned. Paced back out into the hallway.
It was a good thing Wayne was at work or else he would make some remark about Eddie pacing a hole into the hallway floor.
He turned into the kitchen, grabbed the honeycombs out of the cabinet and shoved his hand in the box, scooping out a handful before returning to the hallway. Into his room. Eat a few honeycombs. Turn. Back out into the hallway. Eat a few more. Turn. Back into his room. Eat the rest of the honeycombs.
His eyes landed on a notebook on his desk.
Mrs. Laski, his fifth grade English teacher, had told him to write when he couldn’t figure out what else to do.  He had a suspicion it was just her way of keeping him in his seat and quiet but that didn’t matter right now.
He didn’t know what to do, and there was a notebook.
He plopped himself down at his desk and flipped open the notebook, turning pages until he found one that didn’t already have notes and drawings scribbled all over them.
2/10/88
I’m gonna kill Jefferson.
Eddie sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose for a second before putting pen to paper again.
Why would he say I’m in love with Steve?  He talks about Kevin from his ridiculous band camp way more than he talks about Barb and he and Bard are dating!  Just because I talk about Steve every once in a while…
Just, where does he get off pointing it out?
Eddie bit his lip tapping his pen against the notebook probably about as fast a hummingbirds wings, his knee doing its best to keep up under the desk.
I don’t even… I’m not looking for a relationship. Haven’t even thought about it.
But now, dear Jeffery has gone and put this idea in my head and it’s growing like cancer. It’s probably going to start dripping out of my ears all soft and mushy.
Steve Harrington.
<3 <3
The problem – the fucking annoying, needling, migraine inducing problem – is that he’s right.  As soon as he said it, I knew. Why didn’t I know before?
Eddie dropped his head to his desk and let out a tortured groan.  This morning, he was the same Eddie Munson he had been for years… well, ever since he survived a trip to an alternate dimension with 20% more scare tissue than he had before.  He was fine this morning and then Jeff had to open his mouth after the campaign.  Eddie had harmlessly mentioned that Steve applied for a job at the fitness place opening up across town and Jeff came back with, “Does Steve know how much you love him?”
Eddie was pretty sure he meant it as a joke… was 75% sure.  But it put the idea in his head and now…
Eddie picked up his head and wrote with so much force that it probably made a dent in the next five pages:
I’m in love with Steve Goddamn Harrington.
Eddie stared at the words… ran a finger over them, the ink smudging a little, feeling the indents of the letters; smiled a little.  He skipped a line and kept writing:
I’ve never considered what being in love would be like.  Never really been interested enough.  Now that I think about it though, I think I’ve loved Steve for a long time.  I mean, he saved my life… so that definitely has something to do with it…
But at the same time, that’s not it at all.
Steve is…
Eddie looked around his room.  On his nightstand was a baseball that Steve had brought over one day and just left there.  Whenever Steve visits he picks the ball up, lays back on Eddie’s bed and tosses the ball up and down, up and down, never once missing a catch and hitting himself in the face like Eddie is pretty sure would happen to him if he tried it.
His eyes drifted over to his closet, where one of Steve’s swim team shirts hangs on a hook.  He loaned it to Eddie one day when they were swimming and he just… never gave it back.
He knows that under his bed is a box of Steve’s personal stuff.  He brought it over one night when he thought his parents were going to kick him out and Eddie promised he could always stay with him and Wayne if he needed.  Steve didn’t stay more than two days, but the box never left.  Steve said he felt better leaving it with Eddie.  Eddie respected Steve enough to never snoop around in it.
Steve is kind.  He’s too kind sometimes and it makes me wonder how he survived his parents; survived all that shit that happened in ’84, ’85, ’86.  Sometimes I can see it in his eyes.  When he thinks no one is looking he gets this thousand-yard stare and I know he’s somewhere else, hearing echoes and seeing ghosts.
And he’s so strong.  He’s told me about the nightmares, the things that happened to him, and how much he longs to get the hell away from this shit-hole town. But not until the kids are gone.  Not until Robin and Nancy are settled somewhere far away from here.  Not until he knows that everyone is safe. I asked him when that would be, and I swear I saw his spine bend further under the pressure of it all. When is anyone ever safe?
Eddie’s eyes drifted to the corner of his desk.  Tucked under another notebook was a newspaper ad for a car dealership, where Eddie knew Steve had circled the truck he ended up buying.  Eddie asked if he was turning into some kind of country boy.  Steve shrugged and said, “It’ll come in handy when Robin goes to college after her gap year.”
Eddie also knew there was an aborted half circle around a used RV.  He knew Steve wanted to travel, to see something outside of Hawkins. To do something normal and distracting and fun.  Go somewhere he could relax and not worry.  Eddie was accosted with a memory of himself and Steve, parked in the van on the side of a backroad, looking out into a freshly cut wheatfield as the sun set. The orange and red coloring the side of Steve’s face as a soft breeze carried the last traces of summer warmth into the back of the van and Steve closed his eyes against it.
“Eddie?”
“Hmm?”
“I’m glad you’re here.”
I think I love Steve because… Because he’s like Aragorn. It sounds corny and stupid but… Aragorn does everything for the people he loves. Only becomes king because he knows that others might use the same power for evil. Carries the horrors of war with him but doesn’t lean on anyone that can’t hold his weight. And Steve does that.  He loves fiercely but in a way that can only be seen if you’re looking for it.  He’s loyal to his friends. He carries so much weight for the ones he loves.
And I think I’ve realized, though I’ve known in the back of my head for a while, that I always want to be by his side, to hold him up if he needs me.  Because I know he would do the same.
Someone knocking at the door startled Eddie out of his thoughts.  He dropped the pen on the notebook and hopped up out of the chair.
He hardly had time to process the fact that it was Steve on the other side of the door before he spoke.
“I got the job.”
It took Eddie a minute to process but when his mind caught up he threw his fists in the air before launching himself out of the door and wrapping his arms around Steve, the force of his hug knocking Steve back a step.
“Jesus,” He heard Steve chuckle before he turned his head an planted a comedically loud kiss to the side of Steve’s face.
“Dude!” Steve groaned, shoving him away but not losing the stupid grin as he wiped at the side of his face.
“Come on, Steve-o, let’s celebrate.” Eddie grinned, pulling Steve into the trailer and Steve let himself be pulled.
Eddie bounced down the hall into his bedroom, pulling his lunchbox off its shelf in the closet.
“Munson, they’re gonna drug test me tomorrow.”  Steve said from the doorway of Eddie’s room where he was pulling off his Family Video vest.
“God, you’re not even getting a paycheck yet and already they’re ruining your fun.”  Eddie groaned, putting the lunchbox back where he got it.  Steve threw the vest on Eddie’s bed before picking up the baseball.  “Can you drink?  Or will they sense the debauchery in your urine?”
“Uhg, why’d you have to use that word?”
“What, debauchery?’”
“No, ‘urine.’”
Eddie cackled.  “Should I have said piss?”  He rounded the bed and headed for the hallway.  “Fluids? Excretions?”
“You’re disgusting!” Steve shouted at him as he made his way to the kitchen.
Eddie smiled to himself as he opened the fridge, pulling out four beers before grabbing the cheese puffs out of the cabinet.
“It’s too bad it’s a Tuesday or we could go to the hideout and weasel free drinks out of Linda. You know she can’t resist…”  Eddie stopped dead in the doorway because there, sitting at his desk, was Steve, notebook in hand, eyes on the page.
“Shit,” involuntarily left Eddie’s mouth as he almost dropped one of the beers.  Steve didn’t look up, didn’t even move, just kept reading.
Eddie threw the beers and puffs on the bed before taking a couple of stuttering steps towards Steve.
“Stevie? Uh, that’s…” That’s what? What could he possibly say right now that would explain the words on the page as anything but what they were.  “I can…”
Steve held up a finger and Eddie froze, stopped talking because what else could he do?  He watched as Steve’s eyes moved line by line down the page, finger held up with the ball still in his hand like some sort of sports wizard casting a spell on Eddie to keep him silent and still.
He reached the end. Put the notebook down. Dropped his hand. And finally turned to Eddie.
“Do you mean it?  All of that?”  Steve asked, eyes locked on Eddie’s.
“Yeah. All of it.” Eddie replied past the lump in his throat.
Eddie watched as Steve slowly got up from the chair, placing the ball on the desk before taking the one step that placed him squarely in front of Eddie.
“You know, Valentine’s day is coming up, and I know it’s not your favorite holiday but uh…”  Steve slipped his hands into Eddie’s “Would you like to spend it with me?”
Eddie smiled, leaning into Steve’s gravity. “Only if you buy me one of those cheesy, drug-store teddy bears.”
“Deal.”  Steve grinned back before he was pulling Eddie’s hands, tilting his head just so and murmuring “I love you, too” before sealing his confession against Eddie’s lips.
When they broke apart Eddie squinted at him.  “I can’t believe you snooped in my personal writings.”
“I can’t believe you needed Jeff to tell you that you loved me.”
“I take it back, I’m not going out with you.”  Eddie grumbled.
“Yeah, right.” Steve laughed before kissing Eddie again.

Like ‘Em Weird - Steven Grant x reader
Tumblr media
Warnings: bri’ish reader, non explicit sex, snogging tf out of Steven, general embarrassment, slight jerk Marc
Words: 4k
Rating: M
Summary: A fast moving relationship halts abruptly when the cute guy you met at a cafe wakes up a completely different person.
or
How you helped Steven figure out his body has multiple tenets, and that he doesn’t mind sharing it it’s you
I haven’t actually finished Moon Knight, so any inconsistencies or straight up false stuff is on me. Other guy isn’t here because I haven’t met him yet
Whipping up 1-5k oneshots while I can't get even ten in on my wip is such a me thing it's not even laughable anymore
Also! I have read a lot about DID and talked with friends who have it, and the portrayal of the reader does not represent kind or correct treatment of people with such issues at all, just wanted to be clear that I as the author know that and this isn’t any sort of handbook

“You gonna talk to me or just keep staring?”
Steven blinks, immediately feeling his hands and cheeks go hot.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t realize I was staring–!” He quiets as you stand and drag your metal chair the few feet across the cafe patio to his table, plopping into it.
“Hi.” He murmurs, eyes dropping to his lap as he wrings his hands.
”Hey,” You reach your hand over the table, flashing a smile, introducing yourself.
“Steven Grant.” He shakes it, adjusting in his seat.
“No worries, by the way. I never know how to start a conversation either.”
“I am so sorry, really, I hadn’t noticed. I uh, I don’t do that, I swear, I was just sort of spaced out.” He sucks in a breath and lets it out slowly, running a hand through his hair to get it off his face. “I don’t usually see a lot of pretty girls around, not ones that I find pretty– well, I mean there’re plenty of pretty girls, just not as– you just…” he swallows, wishing he could sink far enough into his chair to disappear from the face of the Earth.
“God I wish I could start over.” He says.
“This conversation, or since you started staring?”
“My life at this point.”
“Take as long as you need.” You grin.
“My name’s Steven, I work in a gift shop.”
“At the museum?”
“Yeah,” he nods, sitting up straighter.
“I knew it, I’ve seen you before! I love that place.”
“Ah! Me too! It’s ahm, probably about my favorite place in the world.”
He goes off about something having to do with history, half of which you don’t quite follow, but you listen anyway.
He tells you about several different exhibits from the museum he works at, stuff that isn’t on the little plaques, going on tangents here and there about the origins of popular misconceptions.
“…and that’s just off the top of my head; numerous examples of it.” He takes a sip of his coffee, suddenly seeming to realize something.
“Shit. Im sorry, I’ve been talking entirely too much. You want to tell me about you?”
“No, it’s cool, I get it.” You laugh. “You read a lot.”
“Oh loads, anything that interests me, I love books.”
“Music's my thing.” You say.
“Oh, do you play?”
“Nah, I collect. CDs mostly, vinyl sometimes.” You finish your drink, setting your cup aside.
“I’d love to get into it, but I should be going. Do you wanna get dinner sometime?” You ask.
“Yeah,” he nods and you pull out your phone, handing it to him to put his number in.
“I’m vegan, but anywhere you like is fine though. Saturday work?” He says.
“Saturday’s brilliant.” You click your phone closed when he turns it back to you, tucking it back in your pocket.
“Brilliant.”
“I’ll call you with the place. See ya then.”
“See ya.”
Saturday rolls around, and you get off the bus to a lovely little Indian place with a bounce in your step.
You had double checked thy had plenty of vegan options, spending the last few days trying and failing not to text Steven every half hour.
“Sorry! I got put on inventory again.” Steven huff as he bounds up to you, making you feel a little silly as he’s all dressed up.
“You’re right on time actually. I just came early.”
“Oh, thank goodness.” He says, exhaling heavily and straightening his back.
He holds up a “Um, these are for you.”
“Oh my God.” You smile, taking them from him and turning them over.
“I hate flowers, but that has got to be about the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me.”
“Sorry, I’ll uh, I’ll remember that.”
“Nothing to be sorry about, I appreciate it. Shall we?” You gesture to the restaurant door.
“Oh– Of course,” Steven sidesteps to hold open the door for you, and you both head in.
Seated with your food on the way, you look your date up and down expectantly, to which he sets his drink down and explains.
“I am keeping my mouth sealed unless spoken to. Even if it means I’m staring.” He jokes at the end with a smirk.
“Sure you’re going to be able to stick to that?” You tease, taking a long sip from your mango lassi.
“Sure am. Talk to me.”
So you do.
You tell him all about where your from, your favorite band, the kinds of movies and shows you like, and he chimes in with his own, careful not to dominate the conversation with his preferred topics, which as much as you love the sound of his voice, you’re grateful for.
“You know there’s something special about you maybe.” He says when you’re about finished with your meal. “I feel like I just click with you. Is that weird?”
“No, it’s not weird.” You shake your head, meeting his eyes. “That’s not weird at all.”
You walk with him down the street, hands in your pockets from the slight chill, but keeping close enough your arms are almost touching.
It’s quiet, and it’s a comfortable quiet, but you can’t help but feel nagged at by a lack of something.
You come to an intersection, and Steven turns to you.
“Well, thank you, for going out with me.” You take him in, framed in the streetlight, messy hair and nice clothes, pretty eyes catching the light.
“I hope you have a great rest of your night–”
You push him against the brick wall of the building closest and catch his lips in a kiss, startling him as his hands hover over your shoulders, then your arms, before finding your back and waist, pulling you close.
He kisses back confidently at first, then out of sync, then trying to pull away, saying something muffled.
“Good?” You break the kiss to ask, wetting your lips.
“Yeah. S’prised me’s all.” He says, breathing heavy. “I just wanted to say I think you’re gorgeous.”
You pull him back into it with almost feverish urgency, pushing your tongue past his lips and to the roof of his mouth where you find his and press and move against it roughly, hand finding the back of his head to tilt just enough to have the perfect angle to explore.
You recede to let him breathe and Steven catches a dribble of spit with the back of his hand, looking mortified as he having no where else wipes in on his coat.
You bite your tongue to keep from laughing, wiping his bottom lip with your thumb.
“Sorry,” he mumbles. “Sorry that’s gross, I dunno if I’ve ever been kissed like that, I’ve no idea how,” he wipes his lips again.
“It’s not like movies. Very, very wet.”
“You talk a lot for someone who stares.”
“In the restaurant. Out here I’ve dropped it now. You know I don’t know if I want to be remembered as that guy in your head.”
“Something else, then?”
“I’m cool with gift shop guy.” He says as you give him lighter pecks on the mouth.
“Much better than spaced out Steven.” You giggle, tracing his cheekbone around back to his ear and down his beck, letting your thumb slip under his collar as you press your forehead against his.
“Yeah well, I find it hard to get a good night’s sleep.”
“I’d like to get a good one with you.”
“Hmnn?” His eyes flit to your lips and then back up to yours, bewildered.
“Oh, oh you mean!” He pulls back and gives an enthusiastic nod, a wide smile on his face.
“Hells yeah.”
“I like your apartment,” Steven says under his breath between dizzying kisses in your entryway, watching you alternate between his throat and kissing him with utter fascination, unsure how to keep up or what to do with just how expertly you’re making him fall apart.
“You haven’t seen it yet.”
You pull him by the wrist through your living space, past the couch to your bedroom, where you shut the door and shuck off his jacket.
“Do you have a condom?” He asked before you can devour any attempts he has at talking again with your mouth.
“Yeah, one sec.” You dig around in your nightstand drawer, pulling one out and turning back to give Steven a gentle shove onto the bed, climbing atop him and undoing his buttons with your free hand.
“I can’t believe this is really happening,” Steven says when you finish with his top and strip off your own, tearing the condom open and sitting back on your haunches. “This is unbelievable.”
You grab him by the chin, making his heart skip a beat. “Let’s aim for unforgettable.” You say.
Steven lays on his back, hands on his chest, having finally caught his breath.
“That was lovely.” He says.
“Lovely?” You repeat, stretching your spine, side eying him.
He turns on his elbow you look at you. “Lovely. Amazing. Mind blowing. All of the above.”
“Been awhile?” You chuckle, tracing his collarbone to his shoulder before hooking your arm over it.
“You have no idea.” As lost in your eyes he is, he pulls away to check the time, sitting up.
“I um, I should get back to my apartment,” he moves to get off the bed, and you sit up after him, catching his wrist. “Hey wait. Don’t be ridiculous, stay.”
“No, I uh…” Steven stops himself, not wanting to mess this up. If he told you he had some weird sleep condition, that he literally bolted himself to his bed to sleep every night for fear of missing hours or waking up places he didn’t recognize, he was certain that was the kind of thing that would scare you off.
That look you're giving him, that half lidded, cocksure smile, still topless and not even trying to cover it, it’s convincing enough on its own.
“That’d be just fine. Yeah. Yeah okay.” He relaxes back into the bed and you lean up and kiss him.
“Great.” You murmur, pulling him in and tugging the covers back over you.
Maybe just one night would be fine.
Marc wakes up in an unfamiliar room, with an unfamiliar woman in bed next to him.
You stir, burrowing your face into the pillows before you feel the bed spring back, blinking your eyes open and pulling yourself up just enough to see him retrieving his clothes from the floor.
“Hey, no rush, it’s Sunday, come ‘ere.”
“I’m sorry, you seem nice and all, but I was not supposed to wake up here.”
“What happened to your accent?” You laugh humorlessly, brow knitting.
“Accent? Jesus, I don’t have time for this, I’ve got to be in Madripoor in like two hours, that idiot was supposed to be back at his apartment.”
He gathers up the rest his things as he mutters to himself. “Yeah yeah I know, I can get to the justice after I get back to his apartment and sort things out there. I swear if this is what gets him… yes. Of course I’m grateful. I will handle it.”
“Hey, wait!” You pull a t-shirt and pajama pants on, following him into your living room, but by then he’s already got his shoes on.
He opens and struts right out your front door without another word, slamming it behind him.
Monday afternoon you take your lunch break to head down to he museum, stomping right up and into the corner gift shop, where sure enough, Steven sits twiddling a pen while he reads.
He sets aside both when he sees you, smile falling when he sees your face.
You plant your palms and lean directly over the counter, huffing.
“Hey, you know I really can’t believe I fell for your shy soft boy act, you pull that on everyone? Or was I just ‘special’ enough to catch your attention?”
“What? I– what are you talking about– hey!” He jumps up from his seat as you push back from the counter, folding your arms.
“I mean what on Earth is wrong with you!” You stare him down as he rounds his station to speak with you.
“Hey, whatever I said, I’m sorry? I don’t– I didn’t mean it– will you please tell me what you are talking about?”
“You jerk. Can you go one minute without lying? Rhetorical, because you obviously can, if it’s convenient to getting in my pants. God! I can’t believe I slept with you.”
“You slept with me?!” He exclaims, hunching over as a couple passerbys give him looks, making you roll your eyes. “Holy shit, I thought I dreamt that.” He says mostly to himself, tugging at the hair behind his ear.
You look at him, jittery, wrinkled clothes, chewing at his thumbnail.
“Are you high?” You ask, tilting your head to get a better look at his face, trying to make out if it’s a bruise or just bags under his eyes.
He quickly shakes his head. “No, no-no-no, I-I don’t do pills or anything. I mean, maybe I should, to be honest– but I’ve never done drugs of any kind.”
You throw up your hands. “Why would I believe you after yesterday!”
“Yesterday? Why– What happened yesterday.”
“Unbelievable. You know, you aren’t worth this. Don’t text me anymore.” You turn to the door, but his whirls around you in a panic, blocking you.
“Wait! Wait, please. Look I don’t know what happened the other night, but I assure you that's not me, I’m not like that, I would never say stuff like that, I’d never use you, I like you! I really like you, and I don’t want to never see you again.”
You study his expression, torn between how completely devoid of any sort of dishonesty it looks, paired with how desperate his tone is, and just who you remember walking out of your apartment.
“You’re acting completely different now.” You shake your head, hanging it and letting out a long sigh before looking back up at him, which you immediately regret because he has the saddest puppy eyes you’ve ever seen. “I have to get to work. If you think you can explain to me just what the hell is going on with you, meet me at the park at six thirty, I’ll… I’ll hear you out.”
“Thank you,” he folds his hands, needing to shout after you as you make to leave. “I won’t let you down, I promise!”
You give a dismissive wave as you head out museum's front doors.
“…and that’s all I know, I swear.” You’re seated on a bench in the park. By now the sun has set, and the lights are the only illumination with a cloudy night sky.
“I believe you.” You sigh, letting the leg you’d been sitting on down from the bench to stretch. “How often does this happen?”
“Most nights. I’ve been trying not to sleep because of it.”
You shake your head. “Why the hell haven’t you gone to a doctor?”
“Because I can sort it, it’s fine. You go to a doctor if you're sick, I’m not sick.” He fiddles with his hands, realizing your looking at them he smoothes them down his pants and keeps them on his knees.
“Sleepwalking isn’t sick. It-it’s just like, stress, or something.” Even saying it aloud he didn’t believe it, but what was the alternative? That he was legitimately mad?
“Steven, look at me. You need to get help for this. That's mental. It’s not normal. Tell me you’ll get help.”
“I’ll look into it.” He scratches at his
You frown. “And mean it. You need help.”
“I mean it, I will get help.” He nods when you put a hand over his, pulling him into a side hug.
“Thank God.” You murmur.
Two months later, you and Steven are kind of dating.
Though your relationship had taken a big step back, you still texted and called him frequently. You didn’t feel like you could bring yourself to getting any closer, not when you still didn’t know who you had woken up in bed with.
Today he’s over for tea, on your couch with his hands folded, helping himself to the biscuits you put out.
You come back from putting the water on, stuffing a couple cookies in your mouth before he can eat them all.
“Oh! I erm, I got you a copy of that new CD from that band you like.” Steven digs around in his bag, pulling out a still wrapped album, handing it to you.
“Holy cow.” You scoff as you take it.
It was the newest release from your favorite band, and had been sold out everywhere for more than two weeks.
“I can’t believe you remembered. I’m putting this on right now.” You pop on the stereo, slow rock jams filling the apartment as the water boils and you bring the pot to the table, filling Steven’s cup.
“So how are you doing?” You ask.
“Oh, mostly good. I still haven’t figured him, Marc, out much, but I am sleeping better.”
“You figure out just what ‘he’ is yet.”
“No, still no diagnosis. I’m having trouble finding a therapist I like. I also, you know, not keen on institutionalization.”
“Right. Well I mean so long as he doesn’t decide to go on some break.” You grimace, wondering what the hell he could’ve had been up to in Madripoor of all places, if he’d even been serious.
“Beg your pardon?”
“Never mind.” You give your hand a wave.” I still can’t believe I’m how you found out.”
“Hey now hang on, I knew, I just didn’t know why.” He stands up to be at your height, annoyed.
“Or how, or what.” You give him a look.
“Yeah. But I did know.” He shrugs. “Even though he was trying to keep it from me.”
“Well yeah, probably because you’re the nice one. Marc is a prick.”
“The hell did she just say about me!?” Marc growls, catching his eye in his reflection in your tea kettle.
Steven blinks. “He didn’t like that.”
You draw your brow, frowning. “He can hear me?”
“Apparently? I don’t get most of it myself, I didn’t think he could hear me till like last week.”
You push off the back of the couch. “Tell him to come out here and talk to me right now.”
“Uh, right, sure, yeah. Marc, you heard her.” He closes his eyes, taking a deep breath.
When he opens them again, you slap him across the face.
He cups his cheek, turning to look at you. “Still Steven!”
“Shit– I’m sorry!” You cover your mouth.
“You were going to smack him? But that’s me!”
“I thought– I didn’t think it through, really. Is he not there?”
“I can’t really make him come out, he just kind of does it if I let him.”
“I’m sorry I hit you.” You say.
“No,” he shakes his head. “He totally deserves it. Prick is right on the money.”
“Even so, I shouldn’t have done that.”
“Already better.” He smiles. “Though a kiss wouldn’t hurt…”
You raise a brow and smile, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
You hang out a while longer before heads home, leaving you to think.
“I want to date her too.”
“What?” Steven looks up at his mirror from across the room. “You won’t tell me where you’ve been pissing years of my life away, what you’ve been doing, but now you want to meddle with the one good thing that’s happened to me, after you nearly screwed it all up? That’s rich.”
“I didn’t want much of anything to do with her until I saw the way she slapped you, I mean, that was unexpected.”
“She’s for sure, isn’t she? All the more reason you will not seeing her unless she asks.”
“Let me talk to her or I’ll break up with her.”
“We’re not together…ish. I don’t know, it’s not the simplest.”
“I’ll ghost her. Delete her contacts. You know I will.”
“Alright! Okay, fine. Jesus.”
He picks up his phone. “Don’t you negotiate in anything but threats?” He starts to dial your number, then stops.
“Hang on… you’re jealous, aren’t you?”
“I’m sorry?”
“You're jealous I have a girlfriend and you don’t. And she doesn’t talk nicely about you.”
“I’d stop talking now.”
“Holy shit, that’s hilarious. You act like you think my life is boring, but you envy it.”
Marc glares at him, jaw working.
“I’ll tell you what, I will set you up, but you have to tell me what you’ve been doing, and where you've been taking me.”
“Khonshu’s not gonna like that.”
“Again with bloody Khonshu. You’re flipping bending over backwards for that fool. Figure it out, cause that’s that.”
“Fine.”
“Perfect. Done deal.”
He hits dial. “Hey so uh, Marc wants to meet you. Properly. I’ve told him he needs to apologize.” Marc rolls his eyes but doesn’t say anything. “Right. Yeah. Can you meet me?”
“This… Marc the Merc, the pissy one?” You say, looking him over. You’d met Steven not far from the museum, and held his hand while he relaxed and let Marc take over.
“Yes, it’s me again. Hi.” You meet his eyes, feeling oddly bothered by just how the same they look. It’s Steven, but it’s not.
It’s painfully not him, and yet you can’t put into words how.
“Hey,” you say, not sure what else you’re supposed to.
“Let’s get this part out of the way: I’m sorry I walked out on you. It’s Steven’s fault we were there at all, and I had shit to attend to, but I was less than curt about it.”
“Accepted, if that’s the best I’m going to get.” You nod, and he gestures for you to walk with him, so you do.
“I haven’t been keeping tabs. What’s he been telling you about me?” He says.
“Not a lot. I mean, he barely knows you, and neither do I.”
“There’s not a lot to tell. He’s not supposed to be tangled with my life, but, since he is, I figure we might as well share.”
You stop, and he does too.
“What?” He says. “I’m willing to be more open if you are.”
“What are you talking about? Are you saying you want to get with me?”
“Would you like to?”
He looks you right in the eyes, catching you off guard. Before you can answer he cups your face and kisses you, arm around your lower back, nearly lifting you off the ground.
You pull away, eyes wide, breath ragged, trying to get your brain to catch up with your body, realizing you're right in the street where everyone can see you.
“Too much?” He asks.
“No,” you shake your head. “Just– just surprised me.” It’s quiet for a moment.
“His apartment’s not far,” he finally says. “If you wanna see just how much of a prick I am.”
You stare up at your boyfriend’s apartment ceiling, wondering what the hell you’ve gotten yourself into.
You turn when you hear footsteps coming back to the bed.
“Hi,” he gives you a little wave, holding out a cup of tea.
You sit up on your elbows, slowly taking it. “Steven?” You say tentatively.
“Yep, it’s me.” You stand up, throwing back half the cup and setting it aside, swallowing. “Everything go okay?” He asks.
You nearly knock him over in a hug, burying your face into his shoulder.
“Better than okay,” you say, smiling against his bare skin.
“Really? Oh, Gods, that's a relief.” He wraps his arm around you, pressing his nose to the top of your head.
“Marc was different than I thought.”
“Now we’re even, he said he’d cooperate with me some more, so I think it all works out?”
“I love you. Both of you.”
“Really? It’s not too weird?”
“Hey,” you press a kiss to the bridge of his nose. “I like ‘em weird.”
Even though you had next to no idea what was to come, between you, Steven, and Marc, you were confident you would figure it out.

Hello! If requests are still open I would like to submit one for the valentines day event? I would like a confession letter from baji (he's liked me for a LONG while but bc I have low self esteem/been in a bunch of failed friendships and relationship (some of wbuch he had a part if bc he didnt wanna see me with another man), I only saw him as a friend and didn't really allow myself to have feeling for him (like im a really optimistic/extroverted person but I'm also rlly scared of getting close to people as my most recent friendship breakup resorted in me getting fucking insomnia that took weeks to recover from). Tone: hurt/angst to comfort/fluff where after I try to go out on a date (and fail), he finds me crying onnthr curb, ion wanna see his fsce (bc we got into an argument) and then he tries tos ee what's wrong but I'm hiding my feelings, we get into an argument and I run off (it's super dramatic too). Other info: we've been tight since middle school (i saw him as a big bro/cool guy figure. Looked up to him) ans latches onto him even as I gained and lost friends gjnffjdnmd
Sorry if its too confusing or complex dndndn
Have a lovely day!

Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were at home sulking over the events of the day; a failed date once again due to your inability to fully trust a guy again, to Baji finding you crying on the curb, the argument that ensued after, and you running away from your own feelings, taking yourself back home.
You felt so pathetic, why couldn’t things work out for you? Why did you have to have these feelings for your friend despite how much you tried to push them away? There was no denying them anymore.
A knock at your door, forces you off your feet, opening the door to find no one there, but instead, a letter on the ground with your name on it.
Strange…
You wipe away your tears and bring the letter in with you, opening it;
Y/N,
Before you crumple this up and throw it away, please wait…I’m sorry okay? I was just…upset. I realize I’ve been holding my feelings back for so long that my instinct is to scold you for going out on dates…it’s probably jealousy honestly.
We’ve been close since middle school and I’ve seen all the crap you’ve been through with fake friends and failed relationships…which I’ve probably scared a few potential love interests of yours away myself…but I can’t help it. I like you. What man stands around and lets other guys talk to the person they like? Despite how lame I’ve been to keep it to myself instead of just telling you…
But after tonight, I can’t hold it back anymore. I like you, Y/N. I have for a while and I hate to see you hurting…I know I could treat you well. Our friendship is proof of that, but I want to be more than just your friend. I want to hold you when you’re hurting and kiss your tears away. I want to reassure you and build you up after all the times you’ve been knocked down by losers who don’t know how to treat their lovers…
I’m tired of running from my feelings, I just hope I haven’t pushed you away by telling you this.
Come find me, please.
Love,
Keisuke.
You can’t help but smile at the letter, the guy could hardly spell (let’s pretend like there were many spelling and grammar mistakes in the letter…the editor in me couldn’t actually do it BFHKEAF), let alone put words together on paper, but he tried for you, and it was beautiful.
Maybe these feelings you had for him weren’t so bad after all. Maybe this could be your first good experience with a relationship. Baji always treated you well, despite the times he’d get moody after you’d mention dates you had gone on, but now you knew why–he liked you back.
You laugh to yourself, wiping the remainder of your dried tears. Time to find happiness with your best friend. The thought filled you with hope, making you excited for the idea of dating him.
Maybe today wasn’t so bad after all.

Something you did to succeed?
When I first got to LA and I didn’t really know anyone on campus yet, my Big made me go to a party with her. It was filled with Thornton and SDA boys, and while I’ve never really been into musicians or actors, sometimes you have to work with what you’re given and have a good time. Creating connections with people my age was heavy on my mind when I first got to campus, and I wanted more social opportunities.
I ended up on a couch, in a completely one-sided conversation with a real Jack Antonoff-type character, and I couldn’t relate to a single thing he was saying. He’d bring up producing or curating playlists, talk (brag) about his deal, or drop names every other second while I sort of just sat next to him and nodded along halfheartedly while trying not to spill my drink.
I know me, and I know what I can relate to. I felt his energy, tuned in to what he was talking about, and realized that we’d both spent our lives working hard to feel good enough, sacrificing, and being pushed to the limit, and he had a vicious ambition and desire to succeed. As he was talking about producing, I finally interrupted him and said, “Have you seen Whiplash? I feel like you’d love it. It’s one of my top ten favorite movies,” and his eyes immediately sparked up.
All it took was knowing a few cultural references, being able to read the room, listening, and waiting before I spoke to unlock an entirely new side of the guy I was talking to. As soon as I asked him about Whiplash, he said, “What was your name again? Charlotte?” and I was in good. I wasn’t into him, but I wanted to get to know him and his people, so I stayed sat and matched his energy since I knew he was important to know.
I left the party early, didn’t give him my number, and told him I’d accept his follow request once I got home, and went to bed instead of answering his DM. He asked people about me for weeks after, reached out to invite me to things, asked me to dinners, invited me to attend a premiere with him as his guest, made me playlists, and got me a Coachella pass after seeing me post about never having gone to the festival before.
I was in the room not long ago with my Big, and she brought him up and said, “You know he still talks about you, right? He’ll bring you up unprovoked and say that you’re so cool and know all the references” when really all I know is how to time things right, keep my voice and eye contact nice and steady, and hold myself well. The key for me is being passionate but careless too.
I prioritized making connections because I know where my strengths lie, and I know I thrive when I’m given the opportunity to be social. Success in Los Angeles hinges on who you know, and I’ve made so many friends, found opportunities, had new experiences, and had the chance to experience more life through getting to know more people. Connections are key in Los Angeles, and it’s incredibly important to become comfortable talking to and meeting new people as early on as you can so that you have a shot at success.

Self Romance
Summary: Steve decided to romance himself for a while after realising the girls he'd been chasing would never treat him the way he'd like.
Author's note: I could take extra hours to convince myself to add speech tags, or I could give my brain a break and leave it as it is. Sorry not sorry.
~
Robin was right to say he sucked.
Steve knew he was off his flirting game and he’d known he could fall for her. Everything kicking off under the mall had only made that clearer, especially since she never let any interaction between them stay one-sided, uneven.
After Nancy that shocked him to notice. Nobody had made that balance for his before and it was only in their biting, sometimes cruel, banter that he realised it. Steve couldn’t zone out and join in the conversation ten minutes later without anyone noticing when Robin was there to needle him and she didn’t let him lead the chatter either, interrupting him anytime he might’ve.
It made accepting her coming out easy; he didn’t want to lose that friendship even if they wouldn’t date as he’d hoped.
Except Steve still wanted romance and dating.
Except maybe he didn’t want to do all the flattering and romancing now, because he wanted someone willing to do that.
Nobody, no girl he dated, however much they shared about their hopes for a relationship, and some had long lists given they rarely got past first dates, included reciprocating things they wanted from him themselves.
~
You’re giving up dating?”
“I think so, or really, I’m going to do what I would for those girls for me now.”
“Are you struggling still? After everything?”
“No! Of course yes, they have our names but that’s not why.”
“Explain it to me.”
~
The mix-tape was the least uncomfortable thing to start with.
Steve had made himself tapes of favourite songs and sad songs before. He’d made them for working out to or for blasting over the pool as he swam and remade a perfect party mix a hundred times so it wasn’t something he couldn’t do.
The discomfort came from picking out love songs he wished were directed to him and adding the sweet comments he was used to directing at girls to the case inlet.
~
“Who are you dating?”
“No one.”
“Then who gave you this?”
“Doesn’t matter.”
“Yes it does. You’re meant to tell me this stuff, Steve.”
“Since when.”
“Since we’re friends. Is it Robin?”
“No! It’s no one, probably going nowhere so drop it Henderson.”
“I’ll find out. You know I will.”
“You really won’t.”
“That a challenge, Harrington? You know I’m a genius.”
“Actually great. Focus on that and not uncovering government plots to kill us. Gives me a break from protecting you.”
~
“A romcom? You given up on focusing on yourself now?”
“Nope. I said I’d romance myself and what do we recommend to couples for dates?”
“To guys, horror films for an excuse to hold and protect but for girls and special occasions romcoms, unless there’s a favourite film they can quickly name. Then we judge them if there wasn’t a known favourite.”
“Exactly.”
“Don’t forget your favourite candy then.”
“What would I do without you?”
“Wallow in candyless misery.”
~
Steve felt happier than he had in a while, especially in himself. He didn’t have a date or romantic relationship but he saw value in himself now and had never realised that had gone missing, if he’d ever consciously felt it before.
He wasn’t lonely either, because he had Robin, Dustin and all the other kids he looked after and carted around.
~
“How are you hiding her?”
“Hiding who? We were talking about your devils and democrats game and I’m not hiding anything for Munson.”
“Whoever gave you this! You never see anyone else so how are you sneaking her around? Is it a penpal?”
“No, it’s a tape.”
“Steve’s got a mix-tape? From who?”
“I don’t know. I’ve been trying to find out for months.”
“We’ll help.”
~
Steve snickered to himself as he paid.
The Sinclairs were in the shop and had spotted the flowers he’d decided to buy when pausing to say hello.
He’d brought himself flowers a few times now, first to test how much he actually wanted to romance himself but now it was really because having them made his kitchen feel less lonely.
Since spotting the flowers, Lucas and Erica kept fetching things from whichever aisle he was in, trying to see if he spoke to anyone else. For once the kids being nosey was funny and harmless so he didn’t mind letting them think there was a relationship he wasn’t sharing.
~
“You’re dating again?”
“Occasionally, if I actually like them. Maybe if I show you how to get a date you’ll ask Vickie out finally.”
“Not likely. I’m telling the kids it went wrong with your mysterious mix-tape giver.”
“Fine, but they still won’t give up trying to find out who it is.”
“I’ll take that bet cause I think Dustin will swap straight to playing matchmaker for you instead.”
~
Steve had started romancing himself to ensure his wants were met without heeling like he was begging strangers to get it. Now he carried it on because he’d finally managed to accept he was a full person worth it all, single or not.

My heart is soooo full of love guys
#I think sunlight is a drug#I feel like a new person#maybe it’s just a mindset shift idk#but I’m doing art again too!!!! it’s been SO long since I’ve done art on my own#and like actually attempted a project#and then improv was so fucking fun today#stilll thinking about Brophy’s character. he was just a lil caterpillar. he deserved better#and then Liz played an alcoholic mom who was AWFUL to her kid#and we were just silly and goofy and had a great lil time with this teacher#I love all my friends so much#they’re incredibly funny. honored that they let me play with them#I just have such a good life and I gotta remember that!!! for the winter#maybe. maybe I’m just Fixed and it’s not just that the sun is out#I have also been on a really really weird sleep schedule so maybe that’s part of it#but I feel like I’ve been waxing poetic about the clouds for like a week before my sleep schedule got changed#anyways#go outside and look at how pretty the sky is!!! and the trees and the birds!!! so many little birds#and also the people. all my friends are beautiful and lovely and I’m so glad they’re in my life#I even talked to coworkers I hate today#and I was polite and made conversation#(not with Karl. let’s not get too crazy here. he can go die)#but even fucking ******#I was nice to her even tho I dislike her#cause she’s just a person!! we’re all just people guys#except Karl. Karl can go fuck himself.#damn even my good mood can’t make me excuse him as a human being that’s wild#ANYWAYS all this rambling to say life is soooo good#things are gonna be ok. and even when they’re not we’ll get through ittt

there is no feeling worse in the world than missing your grandma :/
#she died two months before my eighth birthday#and every time i realize i’ve lived well over half my life without her i go a little bit insane bc that just doesn’t feel right#like soooo many of my favorite memories are with her how is it possible she was only in my life for less than eight years#my grandpas on both sides died before i was born so all i’ve ever had is my grandmas#and there’s also the horrible guilt i feel all the time knowing my other grandma is still alive but i rarely ever see her#but when i was a kid she lived an hour and a half away from us and this grandma lived around the corner#so we saw her all the time and every christmas fourth of july etc that whole side of my extended family would all go to her house#she moved into that house when my mom was 2 years old and lived there for the rest of her life so 40 years#and when she went into hospice care her one request was to die in that house surrounded by her kids and grandkids so that’s what happened#my parents bought the house after she died but we lived there for less than 2 years before moving to arizona#they’re both from colorado but they met in arizona and me and my sisters were born here#and the main reason we moved back to colorado in the first place was to be near her#but when we moved again my parents sold the house to our neighbors who had two daughters that my sisters and i grew up with#and they’re still our family friends to this day and we used to go on trips to national parks together every summer#we didn’t see them for maybe five years but then two summers ago their older daughter got married and we went to her wedding#which got us talking about how long it had been since our last trip so we went on another one last summer#this has turned into a tangent but it just makes me so happy that they’re still in our lives#and this great family we’ve known almost my entire life is living in my grandma’s house#she had a pool in her backyard which is super common here in az but not so much in colorado#and she let us invite these girls over all the time to swim so they grew up spending almost as much time in that house as we did#last time we were in colorado we went to have dinner with them and swim and it was like being transported back to my childhood#that house is just so special to me and i felt so blessed to be able to go back there since this family bought it instead of strangers#in a perfect world everything would align in a way that would let me buy it when i’m older and have my own family there#i’ve never had a strong attachment to any other house we’ve lived in but that one will always be my grandma’s house in my mind#i just love and miss her so much she was the most amazing grandma i ever could have asked for#my mom still has a lot of her childhood friends on facebook and whenever she would post pictures of me and my sisters as kids#everyone would comment that i looked exactly like my grandma did when she was a kid and that makes me so so happy#anyway. idk. i just miss her sm she was an angel and i’m so happy she was such a big part of my childhood#lj.txt
